The Role
the internship provides perfect insight into financial services industry. the workload is quite appropriate and there are plenty of opportunities to network and get to know what people do. people are generally very very nice, with expertise in different fields. i feel this internship is a very good place to learn and know about the industry.
my colleagues often give me good advice. they are very nice and super helpful. Some even talk to me much about their life experience after work. I feel much supported by these people and it's truly a very enriching experience. I am sure working with these talented and nice people would be very pleasant.
My supervisors are very nice and give me good advice. Sometimes they are quite busy with their work. In that case, they often assign other people on the team to help me out. The fast-paced nature of this company makes it a bit hard to ask every question I have instantly. But regular catch-ups do make up for that and push me to grow a lot.
I spent on average an hour daily networking with colleagues and spend the rest of time on my desk. My daily working hours is 9am to 6.30pm, which is not bad. Sometimes there are compliance training tests or self review requirements that take quite a lot of time. On the whole, it's quite well balanced.
I was given an individual project in the first rotation and in the second, a group project that I contributed to. The first one was a joint project with tech team and a good starting point to learn, though slightly unrelated to what my teammates were doing. The second one was more about what the team focused on. So it gave me more insight into how the team tackled projects together.
First thing to mention is definitely technical skills. Programming is new knowledge to me and I find no training is more effective than getting hands-on experience in a real project. Also, there's some exposure to finance knowledge. I plan to take more stats and applied maths in my maths degree and will spend free time learning computer science. It's great to learn about fields of improvement at an early age
The Company
The general atmosphere on the trading floor is quite stressful and busy. People talk and sometimes are very loud on the phone. It's a great place to learn as people are usually experts in their own field and people work really hard to achieve some common goals and make the company better.
The internship is very well set up. For me, there are two rotations and there are plenty of social activities and training sessions. Personally, I really enjoy the training sessions provided by individual teams as they are knowledgeable and usually passionate about their field. This is a great place to learn.
The company organized a lot of training sessions and people were very nice and helpful. They are sometimes very busy and also very willing to help out. The general feeling is busy and friendly at the same time. Also, the projects are a perfect channel for me to learn new stuff.

It depends on the industry I guess. Technology and strats are definitely two areas expanding fast as the company tries to automate some of the trades. On the other hand, it seems competition for sales and trading is extremely heated at least in terms of summer interns. These are what I observe on the trading floor.
The Culture
The networking culture is indeed very very strong, and almost appears shocking to me at first. But it's understandable that as a huge company, GS wants to introduce its interns to as many things as possible. People are friendly and helpful and the best way to get the most out of this culture is being confident and curious and keeping reaching out.
