The Role
Enjoyed it very much: 鈥ntelligent people to work with so always learnt something new 鈥tructured internship - always had activities to keep busy 鈥eople always willing to help - not just the people on my team but the wider firm, regardless of location in the world 鈥eaningful project to work on
Everyone takes time out to explain and help out: 鈥o trouble scheduling time in people's diaries for a catch-up to update people on my work 鈥eople always welcome to pick up the phone and explain a process 鈥nterns that I have interacted with always happy to help out with advice
Majority of supervisors I interacted with had time and patience to give guidance and feedback: 鈥ould reach out to a range of people in the management position (from Vice Presidents to Managing Directors) to ask for help or mentorship 鈥nternship gave plenty of opportunities for us to interact with MDs to chat about career paths and any other questions we may have 鈥hen I raised an issue with HR, it was immediately acted on and I was given someone senior to speak to about my problems
Always kept busy with a project on my hands: 鈥part from first few days of orientation, I was always kept busy with daily tasks and projects 鈥 also had time to schedule in work shadow sessions and catch ups, so it was balanced between working and networking events 鈥eam always made sure we didn't stay too late and had a work life balance
Given plenty of responsibility: 鈥iven a project that will actually be implemented to the team, so my work has contributed 鈥iven daily/weekly reports to hand in 鈥 was welcome to schedule in my own meetings with people who I wanted to talk to 鈥eam included me in team meetings and happy for me to report my own findings
Learnt a lot of hard and soft skills: 鈥eveloped soft skills such as how to communicate with different audiences 鈥earnt to be more organised and detailed in my work 鈥racticed how to network with people of all positions and seniority 鈥xpanded technical knowledge - such as financial products and valuation etc
The Company
General atmosphere great: 鈥eople always free to chat with each other, whether to ask questions about work or about life outside of work 鈥ad the freedom to hot desk around the team so can sit next to people who can help with projects 鈥eople sit together in an open plan office space regardless of seniority
Very well organised: 鈥lways had networking events scheduled in our calendars to encourage us to talk to people and get to know the firm better 鈥eekly guest speaker events from people outside my division or outside of work to educate us 鈥iven opportunities to talk to many senior people in small groups of 5-6 so can ask about career path
Given many opportunities: 鈥ssigned a mentor (someone senior position) to talk to about career paths and the firm in general 鈥ssigned a Buddy (someone junior position) to talk about work help and general questions 鈥lways welcome to schedule in time with HR to get feedback 鈥ncouraged catch ups with direct manager to get feedback
Sports and Social Club
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Future employment and development opportunities seem great: 鈥lenty of the senior people I have spoken to have started their career with the same internship scheme, and have spoken about their positive career path 鈥rom networking events and speaking to people who have worked 5 years + in the firm, all have talked about how the firm encourages people to take challenges and new projects
The Culture
Always catching up with fellow interns: 鈥ade really good friends during my time here, everyone is so intelligible and welcoming 鈥an always find someone to eat lunch with - had plenty of group chats to arrange lunch catch ups 鈥veryone was always finding something to do together during the weekends
It is Central London - got to be realistic and know it will not be cheap to live around here and go out to eat often. The cost of eating out and drinking here is not that cheap for a 西瓜视频, but it is to be expected for a touristy area within Central London
I loved the nightlife around my work place - being next to St Paul's Cathedral meant I got to admire the view every time I walked home after working/socialising late Also plenty of bars and restaurants around the place, and a shopping mall, which is to be expected in a touristy area.
There were lots of affinity networks and sports clubs to join that hosted events outside of work: 鈥 joined an affinity network that hosted a boat racing event after work and a BBQ 鈥Ds also scheduled breakfasts outside of work to chat casually 鈥iven the opportunity to participate in Community Volunteering event outside of work 鈥here was an opportunity to get involved in LGBT Pride parade in London
