The Role
I definitely enjoy my internship with PwC. Throughout the internship, I have a good exposure on the daily working tasks that my seniors work on and also the working environment here which I really look forward to it. I love the supportive culture and the people here. These has made my engagements tasks completed smoothly and successfully. Thank you PwC recruitment and resourcing team for setting us up and settling us down.
I highly valued my colleagues in Fulcrum and the colleagues that I have worked with in London throughout my engagements. From the team in Fulcrum, they never give up on supporting us when we facing trouble and organising social events. From my engagement team in London, I really learnt alot from them and they will always space up their time to coach us although they are busying. They also willingly to share their opinions about PwC, the works, and the clients.
Everyone in PwC has continuous supporting me in different ways. People in Fulcrum has helped me to settling down for working remotely. My people manager, This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions is the one I went to when I have a confusion about the career pathway in the future. He has trying to solve or analyse my thoughts when I was facing contradiction.
To be frank, I don't really like the workload that I have given. I have been booked on different 6 engagement entities in 6 weeks. It's a good thing that I have different exposure on different entities. For my first 3 weeks, I really like it, as I have a different exposure on Cass Audits, and some different testing for usual Asset management clients audits. For my last 3 weeks, I realised I started doing some repetitive work for different entities, especially the roll forward stuffs and testing for only Financial Statements Disclosure and Presentation. I feel like I more on helping the seniors instead of learning new things through the internship. I hope resourcing team can also have a better planning before the interns get started, especially the different exposure of learning prospective. I'm sorry if I say anything wrong.
I have always responsibility with the tasks that I have been given. I have also work overtime when my seniors was sort of rushing for the sign off date. I always tried to contribute as much as I can so that I can lighten my senior's stress. One of my goals in my work internship is to learn as much as I can, so I really willing to contribute!
Through this internship, I have learnt about the Audit Aura internal system and Audit testing. It also helps me better understand the role of assurance which will highly helped me in my final year in university. I have also receive a lot of advices from my seniors about the professional paper exemptions and working prospective in the future.
The Company
General atmosphere in my office is kind of chill and friendly. Most of the people will smile at you when you pass by them and also can hear some laughter when walk by the office. In this 6 weeks, I always can't wait to come to work to talk to my colleagues.
Recruitment team was doing a very good job, especially the first week induction which we have the chance to have a better idea on PwC and have a lot of chances to social with our peers and Partner. However, I think there's a better room of improvement for resourcing to better allocate the new joiners.
As I said previously, in Fulcrum, people here working remotely. So, sometimes it might be harder to learn stuffs more effectively if our seniors are not around us. If possible, I would recommend for Fulcrum interns to shadow someone in the Fulcrum and also have the chance to talk to London team members.
Flexi Time
Working from home
I really love the culture here. If I got an offer, I will definitely stick with PwC for a long time. I think it's better, if there's more employee benefits, such as settle down fee for new joiners or maybe a bit higher salary.
The Culture
Yeahhh! I like the culture of monthly Birmingham social event which give the chance to talk to other business line people. I feel this has given be a courage to communicate with the people outside my circle. I really like it! And Fulcrum also have a weekly social event which I really enjoy as well!
Comparing to London, here provide a cheaper cost of living but with a lesser social areas. However, in terms of knowing Birmingham growing in the future, which I really look forward to it.
In Birmingham, there's a few places for Nightlife but I realised the shops closed quite early here and what I dont really like and afraid of is the homeless people here. I got scared by a few times when they suddenly came over and screamed on me which I quite scared when I walking alone on the street.
For interns, we have the chance to get involved in the Dragon Dens competition which I really like this ideas as we can share our ideas online and vote for the better ideas. However, in terms of volunteering, I hope there could be more to be going on or publicising it.
