    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the internship process. From the first day, it was clear just how much PwC were willing to support us through the entire process. All the staff were lovely and really easy to work with. This helped make the experience so much more enjoyable!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • We were always treated as colleagues by other associates which helped make you feel part of a more long-term unit than just a intern. The amount of work we were trusted with also made you feel like you were really contributing to the audit, rather than just there as 'extra help'.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • During the residential portion of the internship we were given 2.5 days of seminars. These helped massively before we were sent away to client audits as it gave us an overall background of what was expected from us whilst we were there. Whilst auditing, team members would frequently help out during the work by coaching us through the tasks before we had to undertake them.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was a never an ease in workload which meant interns were consistently busy . However this worked out well as it meant you were never bored on the job. For those that appreciate quick deadlines this work is ideally suited. Any slow periods for work were not the result of PwC but standard side effects of any auditing process.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • From the very first time we appeared on the client site we were given a share in responsibility over the audit process. Any work we did was actively contributing to actual client audits, which made it more engaging. It was also comforting to know PwC had such faith in us, however the fact that our work was being reviewed before it was sent off was a relief!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As a geography 西瓜视频 there was little correlation in subject matter between the internship and my degree. However this gave me the opoportunity to develop some skills that I wouldn't necessarily get to enhance as part of my degree. As a result I am far more technically capable (particularly in Excel) and my attention to detail is stronger following the internship. These are skills I can transfer to most areas of life.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The Manchester PwC office in particular was noted for having a really friendly atmosphere. Pretty much all people I encountered were sociable and friendly which helped create less of a competitive atmosphere. People here focused on personal development and ambition rather than actively pitting themselves against each other.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation was excellent. The first week acted as a training week to introduce us all to the firm and the job we would be undertaking. Following this I found my clients to increase in difficulty throughout the internship, which meant I could see my personal development as it happened.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It was clear from the beginning just how much PwC was investing in us. We were expected to commit our absolute all and seeing just how much they had committed to us really helped encouraged us. The People Manager and buddy system meant there was a constant support network, and setting objectives showed just how focused the company was on our personal development. Most people coming to PwC are naturally quite driven people so it was nice to see that being actively encouraged and supported.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Travel loan

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Following the internship I have been offered a job with PwC which I will be taking. For me, this is the best opportunity I could have to start my career in assurance.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • As most of the people hired were very social people we frequently tried to meet up outside of work across all divisions for our office. This was really fun as it meant we got to know the people in the same position as us really well. Pretty much all of these meetings were initiated by us.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As I stayed at home to save money, cost o f living wasn't an issue. For other interns who rented 西瓜视频 accommodation nearby, I don't think prices for living in Manchester were too bad.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As it was in the centre of Manchester, the nightlife was pretty great and people were frequently encouraged to meet up outside of work in order to see each other in a more social, easy environment.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Interns could get involved in the dragon's den scheme which pitted intern's business ideas (based on a predetermined theme - this year's was easing congestion) against each other. Aside from this most activities outside of work were either smaller, informal meetups between audit teams or large-scale mandatory corporate events - both equally fun. There was a large emphasis at PwC on maintaining a good work-life balance.
