The Role
I really enjoyed the placement. It gave me a real idea of what I wanted to do with my life. The training days at the start were really fun allowing you to meet loads of people. Everyone around the office is very nice and helpful when working which makes the experience a lot nicer.
I felt very valued by my colleagues especially during the third and fourth week. Due to it being the summer a lot of people were away during the internship. This made it so I was needed in my team and trusted to do actual work such as writing reports and letters which would be sent to customers.
I was given a lot of support by my team who I was working with which was very useful as it taught me quite a lot. My people manager was good at giving me any important information as well as being very easy to talk to. The Buddy system could have been better structured but I found other support.
It very much depended day to day how busy it was. Some days I was very busy with a list of jobs to try to get to, this is quite nice as it made the day go very quick. A couple of other days were a bit quieter with me being research tasks instead of proper audit work.
I was given a lot more responsibility in my placement than I thought I would be beforehand. Whilst at the start I was just copying stuff over I was then allowed to write up a lot of different reports and letters which would go to the client. This made me feel like I was properly adding to the job.
Though the skills I have developed will not help me with my degree (as it is quite different), this has already helped me with beyond my studies. After the internship, if you do well, you can get an offer for the grad scheme. The internship can really help you realise what you want to do beyond your degree and give you skills to help that happen.
The Company
The office is a very nice, relaxed atmosphere. The dress code in the office is dress for you day which means most people are dressing fairly casual. This helps people feel relaxed and like you can chat to those around you as no one sitting in the main part of the office feels too smart and unapproachable.
The placement started with a three day induction at a hotel in Windsor. The Monday of this wasn't greatly organised with the day running late but once the actual teaching of accounting started this was fairly well organised witha lot packed into those days. For the actual work you were booked online to jobs most of the time though there was a few times where I had nothing booked.
The firm seemed to definitely invest of in you as they gave you training at an induction event and then further induction. During this time we were taught about the basics of accounting as well as valuable skills about the computer programs. These are then very useful once the induction is over.

The future employment prospects are very good after the internship. If you perform well on the internship and shown interest in what you are doing, there is a high chance that you will get an offer on the grad scheme in the same place for the same line of service as your internship.
The Culture
The interns were fairly sociable between ourselves. Due to the office being so close to the centre of Birmingham it was easy for us interns to find somewhere to go after work on Fridays. Whilst I didn't do much outside of work with the other people in the office there were offers to go to the end of the month social.
