The Role
The internship as a whole was a very valuable experience. I had a lot of client exposure (worked on site for 5 out of 6 weeks) and gained an assortment of transferable skills. The internship started with a residential induction for 3 days in Windsor, London which provided great networking opportunities with other interns and at a Partner Dinner on 2nd night.
I worked very closely with my team (Data & Analytics in Assurance LoS) on an ongoing ERP implementation project. We all sat together each day which meant I was able to ask questions easily and felt supported. In terms of the wider firm, there were social events held monthly to interact with the interns and talk to graduates which was great for networking and finding out more about the company.
You are provided with a Buddy and a People Manager upon joining PwC. Your Buddy acts as an informal support, to ask general questions on a regular basis. My Buddy emailed me prior to joining to introduce himself and has been a great support throughout my internship. During first week, you set objectives with your People Manager as a guideline to what you expect to achieve over the 6 weeks (these are in line with the company's 5 attributes). You have regular update meetings with your PM who makes sure everything is OK and that you are happy with the work you are doing.
Being on client site, I was given numerous challenging tasks which involved a lot of problem skills. I was exposed to new software e.g. SQL which I managed to pick up pretty quickly and producing files which have been used for CRP (Conference Room Pilot). I was definitely happy that I was kept busy on my internship as it meant I was getting the best experience of what the job is like and gaining a lot of skills that I can apply in my future.
I was assigned to tasks which involved creating templates to upload into a new ERP system. I felt a lot of responsibility in my work since any errors would mean that the upload process would be interrupted and could affect the timescale of the overall project completion date. I also felt responsibility in meeting my objectives set with my People Manager.
Coming from a Maths background in my undergrad degree, I had limited exposure to applying my skills to the workplace. Since this internship, I have acquired skills in new software packages and improved my Microsoft Excel navigating skills to produce work more efficiently. I also feel I have developed a lot of technical and business acumen which will put me in good stead for entering the industry after completion of my Masters degree.
The Company
The office atmosphere was very positive and, as a whole, had a great culture! Everyone was very approachable. The office was open plan, so everyone could mingle and mix together no matter how senior you are. This made the atmosphere feel welcoming and helped to locate people for asking any questions. There were lots of socials you could get yourself involved in which appeared in your calendar!
The residential induction at the commencement of the internship was very well organised. Travelling from Glasgow, our flights were all booked and taxis arranged for pick-up/drop-off. There was a lot of structure to the training. The only confusion was the transfer of Data interns from their Assurance training to Data training, but it was quickly resolved. Throughout the rest of my internship I was based on client site which was well structured and I knew my responsibilities each day.
We had a lot of personal training in the induction week which was very valuable. It meant we had an insight into the firm before being onsite and had some training under our belts. I was able to travel across to the Edinburgh Office one day to meet other members in my line of service. All these travel expenses were paid for. We were also supplied with a company laptop and backpack to use throughout the 6 weeks.

PwC is a global organisation and they have a lot of opportunities. From a general oversight, it is generalised as an Accounting firm but in fact hosts a lot of other lines of work. These spread to Technology, Deals, Tax and Consulting. They also offer secondments to employees which allows you to experience any line of work. I am unsure if I have been offered a graduate role as a result of my internship but understand that the likelihood in general is quite achievable.
The Culture
The social scene was probably one of the best aspects of the job. There are countless events to get involved in. Throughout my time I have attended 3 work drinks/dinners on Fridays and my team have been for various lunches together. It is important to keep up with the other interns outside the job too and we made a real effort to organise a weekly outing!
I have lived in Glasgow for 4 years from being a 西瓜视频 living in the city centre. In comparison to Edinburgh/Aberdeen/London it is much cheaper to live in. Throughout my internship I was able to stay at my 西瓜视频 flat which was a 5 min walk from my allocated client site.
Again, knowing the area comes in handy! Personally, I love Glasgow and the nightlife it offers. You can tend to any of your tastes in music and guaranteed a good night out!
Lots of events and opportunities get emailed into your Google calendar. I got invited to weekly Netball training and end of month drinks. There seems to be a lot going on in the office such as Balls and attending the Races. Best thing to do is get involved as much as you can!
