The Role
Overall, I really enjoyed my internship at PwC. The internship is very well organised and as interns we were looked after very well. We were given lots of responsibility and real audit work to complete, but also lots of coaching to help us with this. Everyone was really friendly and extremely helpful.
As we were given real audit work to complete, there was a sense that we were really a valued member of the team. I felt that everyone wanted to help and everyone was friendly and approachable. I felt respected throughout the internship and there was never a feeling that as an intern I was less valuable to the team.
On the whole, I felt very supported for the entire internship. I asked loads of questions and I was never turned away or felt my questions were silly. Early on I was assigned a 'coach' on the audit who was my go-to person for any questions and they helped me complete all of my work set.
For the most part, I was kept very busy. The work load was manageable, there was enough to keep me interested but not too much to make me overwhelmed. At points there was less to do if we were waiting for information from the client but this would not last long.
I was surprised by how much responsibility I was given over the internship. I was given the easier, more accessible parts of the audit which meant I could complete work in its entirety. This work would then be reviewed by the supervisor who may make small changes, but mostly this work would contribute to the final audit.
I study maths, so the work I was completing was fairly different to what I do on my course. However we did lots of work with excel which will be helpful with my degree. Also a large part of the job was analysing data, the skills I learned here will assist me on my degree.
The Company
I spent most of my internship on client sites with a small PwC team so there was good camaraderie between team members. Everyone was really friendly and approachable, no question was a silly question. I also found that managers and senior managers were not at all intimidating and always happy to help.
The first week of the internship was induction activities which were very well structured. Subsequently I was on client sites for the rest of the internship, before which the in-charge sent a 'kick-off' email explaining everything we needed to know for the following weeks. At no point did I not know where I was meant to be.
The internship started with 3 days of formal training. We were treated like regular employees so given feedback throughout the placement. But for the most part we were trained on the job. There is an atmosphere of employees being helped to reach their maximum potential, so everyone is very forthcoming in terms of feedback and development.
Company Parties/Events
I was offered a place on the graduate programme for when I finish university.
The Culture
I was in a small regional office so there were only two other interns. We got on well but we did not see each other much as we were on different clients across the South East. Everyone is very friendly and sociable and we went out for lunch a few times and were invited to social events over the placement.
I lived at home so living was cheap. Crawley is fairly inexpensive but the surrounding areas can be quite expensive.
The nightlife in Crawley is not amazing but there are a few pubs along the high street.
We were all invited to the summer ball and there were a few social events happening over the course of the placement.
