The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship form start to finish. It started with a 3 day induction in Windsor. This was a highlight for me as it helped us to network with other interns and we were being paid for it! From day one in the office i got involved with real projects and there was never a dull day with such a variety of work and i even got to go on a client meeting.
I felt highly valued by my colleagues despite being an intern. I was given a variety of different tasks from colleagues all over my department, giving me a real sense of responsibility and self worth in the team.
Support was available whenever I needed it. PWC use google hangouts as a form of communication in the office, making it easy to contact anyone in the company. Also, everyone is very approachable and are on hand if you need assistance.
My daily schedule would often vary so i did tend to be busier on some days compared to others. However, if i did find myself with nothing to do there would always be someone willing to delegate me work.
I was given lots of responsibility during my placement. For instance, I had deadlines to meet, meetings to attend and multiple projects at once. Most tasks were independent but my buddy/other colleagues were always at hand if i has any questions.
During the induction we received a training on our relevant field. This really to helped me understand relevant terminology that i would use throughout my internship and how to use the systems at PWC. These skills I learnt are definitely transferable and i'm sure will provide useful in the near future.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very friendly and I found it easy to settle in from the off. There were also a number of opportunities to attend socials helping you to develop friendships with your colleagues.
I can no fault the organisation of the internship. Everything was set out clearly and planned precisely down to the last day.
The firm invested a great deal into us interns and you got a real sense that the company valued your worth. For instance we were all given laptops during our time on the internship, all expenses were paid for and we were given a salary.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Future prospects at PWC are very appealing to me. The company has a very clear and relatively quick career progression path along with many staff benefits like discount at shops.
The Culture
There was a very active social scene during my internship. It started with a introductory lunch, which was followed by a number of social events like bowling and drinks.
Cost of living in Manchester is reasonable and definitely more affordable than down south. Plus the salary I received helped pay for social activities.
Can't beat it. There is a huge variety on offer for all sorts of tastes - you won't be disappointed!
This was solely dependent on how keen you were to get involved with out of work activities. For instance, I was able to visit the Leeds office and attend a client meeting in Bradford.
