The Role
I really enjoyed my 6 weeks with the Corporate Tax team! I felt as if those around me would always look out for me. Whether it was in terms of helping me with things I didn't quite grasp, or even finding me more work to do! There was a variety of projects to work on, so even though my time here was short, I learnt about lots of different things.
I think one of the stand out things during my time here was how friendly and approachable everyone is. On the first day I was understandably nervous, however everyone really seemed to make an effort to introduce themselves. There was a social on the first day we were here and it was really nice to be able to chat to loads of different people outside of the work environment.
During the internship you have a People Manager and a Buddy. Both of mine were always really helpful and approachable, and I can't complain at all about either of them. Whenever I had a question or couldn't find any work they would go out of their way to help me - regardless of how busy they were. They really made a positive impact on the whole experience.
This was possibly one of the only things I would say needs to be evaluated and made better. I didn't expect to busy 24/7, simply as at the end of the day I'm an Intern and I can't be given the same work, for example, a manager does. However, there were many days where for half of it (or more) I didn't have anything to do. There are lots of people to ask for work - as well as being able to message HC to help find some - however, there are just times when there simply doesn't seem to be anything for me to do. This was easily the most frustrating part of the Internship.
I always felt that those who gave me work had a good degree of trust in me to do the job right. I think this is to do with the belief that no question is a silly question. If you need help or a pointer, they will be more than happy to help! So I would definitely say that during the Internship I was given a good level of responsibility.
I can't really comment too much as I study Economics at university, so a lot of the skills in Tax I've learnt I cannot relate to any of my modules. However, I certainly believe that for after university, my time here will benefit me as I've been able to experience what working in a high paced, dynamic office environment is like.
The Company
The atmosphere of the office surprised me at first, definitely in a positive way. I would describe it as relaxed, not in a negative way at all though. Even if it is very busy with work, everyone still maintains a professional mannerism as well as still being approachable and friendly!
I think this overlaps with my previous comments about the lack of work during my time here. Due to only being here for 6 weeks, I understand that I may not work on just one project. This really meant that none of my weeks were planned out, and I was finding work on a day to day basis.
The company definitely invested a lot in us all. The Internship begin with a 3 day induction at an off-site hotel, with the costs covered by PwC. It was an extremely nice 3 days, including partner dinners and networking with other employees - all for free! It was a very nice environment to learn some of the ropes before the first day in the office.

I certainly believe a graduate role at PwC could be the next step for me. They really value your work and contribution, and I think that really matters. Having spoken to lots of different people here, they all seem to really enjoy where they work and the work they do. Given this, I would have no concerns taking the next step in my career here.
The Culture
All the other Interns are extremely friendly and all seem keen to get to know each other. My Internship fell when the World Cup was occurring, which definitely seemed to be a topic of interest for everyone. This lead to a few of us going for drinks to watch some of the matches, so I'd definitely say there was a good social scene.
Fortunately, I live an hours commute outside of the London, so I decided to do that for 6 weeks. Obviously the cost of commuting - in terms of money and time - is frustrating, however having spoken to other people, it is a lot cheaper than living in London. The general prices in London are more expensive, so be warned.
I haven't gone out with anyone from work, however I have gone out in London quite often. Given its London there's a large variety of things, so I would imagine there's something for everyone. My friends and I often go out in Brixton however, there's also a lot of other places more centrally you can go.
There were a couple of socials but not too much on offer during our short time here. One of the other Interns I know played a cricket match for the PwC team, so there are definitely opportunities. My recommendation would be socialise with as many people as possible and then you'll find out about more!
