    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall it was a really insightful and enjoyable experience. I feel I learnt a lot about the firm and the day to day work of an assurance associate. PwC took very good care of the interns and made me feel very welcomed. Occasionally the work was a little stressful when i was unsure of what to do.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were extremely helpful and polite and were great ambassadors for the firm. They were always very approachable and prepared to answer any questions I had. They valued me as an individual and understood my limited level of experience and were very accommodating to this end. The buddy and people manager system worked well.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support and guidance offered by management was excellent. They were very understanding of my limited experience and always put me in touch with somebody who could coach me if they themselves were too busy. However, as a member of fulcrum, it would have been very useful to spend a longer period of time around my engagement team to get to know them personally and get to know the people to reach out to when working virtually.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My work load varied a lot in accordance with the progress or status of the engagements. Some days I was very busy all day but on other days, there was not any client work that somebody with my experience could complete. However, I was always able to find training or shadowing opportunities.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt like I was given a lot of responsibility during this placement. I think I was perhaps given a bit too much at the start as I felt a bit overwhelmed but over the course of the internship the responsibility seemed appropriate. I was trusted with documenting materiality in aura and preparing aura units.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There are many skills I developed over the course of this internship. Perhaps the most important and significant development was in my communication skills. Working as part of a team, I had to communicate with other members of my team frequently and get enough information to be able to complete my task to a high standard. I also had to make the best use of my available time and juggle it around client work, other commitments such as shadowing meetings and training.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the Birmingham office was very positive. All the employees across all levels were very friendly and approachable. The senior management staff work hard to establish a community spirit amongst the fulcrum team and this meant I was able to meet all the members of staff. We also had regular socials and office activities.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well set up. The residential was an excellent opportunity to meet other interns and get to know some PwC employees. The training provided was also invaluable. I think the office induction could have been more thorough and covered basic tasks that all interns were likely to be assigned such as requesting access to aura files or what documenting or rolling forward means.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested heavily in me. The residential took up a lot of time of many PwC employees and the firm took very good care of us. I was able to receive lots of coaching from many members of staff including some quite senior figures. They also took time to find work which I was able to perform despite not having much experience. Overall, it was clear they had invested heavily in the interns.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future employment prospects within PwC are very appealing. It is a very rewarding job and the other members of staff are very talented and friendly. However, I was surprised to find out that many senior associates decide to leave the firm after qualifying due to a better salary and work life balance elsewhere.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • The social scene amongst my fellow colleagues was generally very good. I was invited to attend many social events after work or on the weekends and this helped foster a community spirit and strengthen team bonds. The biggest problem for me was that I had to commute a long way to get here and so I was never able to stay very late.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was able to commute from home to get to the Birmingham office. The total commute time was about 90 minutes each way and so it would not be sustainable in the long term however it was much more affordable than living in the area as it only cost 拢10 a day to travel. The cost of socialising was moderate.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I was not able to enjoy much of the Nightlife in the Birmingham area because my commute was so long. However, I know there are many nightclubs, bars and restaurants that are available for those who are in a better position to enjoy these opportunities. Therefore, it seems like it was good overall.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a reasonable amount of opportunities to get involved in outside of work. In particular I was able to attend the LTT summer ball which was a very enjoyable event. There were quite often some people who would go for drinks after work. However, it would have been good if there were more opportunities available.
