The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed completing my assurance summer internship at PwC. The experience has been amazing, and I feel that I have gained more knowledge about accounting that I didn't have before. The work set was not the same as what I was learning in my degree, which meant that I was able to learn a different part of accounting.
Everyone at PwC has been extremely friendly and helpful. Whenever I have had a problem there were always people there to help me. They would explain step by step each process to ensure that I was not left clueless. I was always included in conversations and in different meetups. I was treated more like an associate than an intern.
The people at PwC have been really helpful. I have been able to ask as many questions as I want, whilst always receiving help. Everyone at the office, everyone that I have worked with on jobs have been extremely friendly and have provided support and guidance whenever I have needed it.
Due to the fact that teams tend to be quite small there was quite a lot of work to do. During the beginning of the internship there were small periods of time where I would not have any work, however, this allowed me to focus on e-learns which helped me learn more about the work I was doing. Further into the internship I was spending all my time working on client audits, and learning more about PwC.
I was given responsibility over different parts of audits. The people I was working with gave me more than menial work as they believed that I was capable of doing more than I thought I could. Even though I was responsible for different pieces of work, everyone that I worked with helped me whenever I needed help.
I believe that skills I have gained from this experience will help me with my university degree as I have gained more knowledge about accounting, which I can apply to the work I do at university. I believe that the skills I have gained will also help me with my time management and my communication with others.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the St Albans office is extremely friendly. The people that you work with are extremely helpful, and you are never left to complete work without help. You are treated like an associate, rather than as an intern, therefore you are always included in conversations and events.
The overall internship has been very organised. There is a website which tells you what clients you have been assigned to when and for how long. The induction was a little rushed, however, everything you learn at the induction you will relearn during the internship. Majority of the time there was enough work to do, however, even when there wasn't you could still do e-learns, which help you learn more about accounting.
The company has invested a lot into my personal training and development. The induction helped me gain a basic view of accounting, which helped me when I started to actually do client work. I feel that I have increased my personal development a lot throughout the internship. Not only have I increased my knowledge of accounting, I have also gained different transferable skills, which are helpful during university and life in general.
Company Parties/Events
Future employment prospects are extremely appealing at PwC. The internship itself is to prepare you for the graduate placement. As long as you work hard, show initiative, and communicate well with others it is likely that you will get onto the graduate scheme. If you don't have any work to do, ask if there is anything else to work on. Go to social events with the company. Start conversations, and introduce yourself to different people. Bring others into conversations. Ask questions about the work, don't just sit there not knowing what to do. People here will always help you.
The Culture
The work day ends at 5.30, therefore there is plenty of time after work to do what you want.
