The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed the internship with PwC. Staff within the firm were all friendly, welcoming and willing to answer any questions I had for them. The responsibility I was given was greater than what I has initially expected - this truly enhanced my experience and ensured I got as much as possible from the internship.
All of the colleagues during the internship were friendly and willing to be as helpful as possible. This was not only surrounding the specific job I was working on but also giving me invaluable wider information about the firm. This included experiences from their own internships/careers and advice on how to make the most out of my experience.
From the start of the internship you are assigned a 'buddy' and people manager (PM). Both of these roles were more than willing to offer support and guidance with regards to any questions I had. I'd say the buddy was more for having an informal chat every so often to find out how you're getting on and if you had any small questions. Whereas the PM was there to make sure you're getting the most from your internship and meeting the objectives you set yourself - for example my PM arranged for me to shadow a partner of the firm for a day during my time there.
The amount of work I was given was definitely adequate. I was never given too much work to complete or having to do incredibly long hours - I'd say my average office hours tended to be 8:30-17:30. At times when I felt I didn't have enough work to do I simply had to ask for more and the team would find something to give to me.
I have found that with this internship if you show willingness to learn and are eager to get work complete you are given more responsibility and increased opportunities to do more than what the average summer intern would be given. The amount of responsibility given to you is very much dependent how much you show you want.
Although I developed many technical skills from this internship they don't link in very well with my degree - therefore assistance here will be limited. However this role has led to me building on my career skills as I have spent the last 6 weeks working as part of a team and regularly interacting with clients.
The Company
I wasn't in the office much however when I was the office seemed relaxed and friendly. I didn't have a negative encounter with anyone during my time on the internship.
It was very well organised. I always knew where I had to be on what days and what kind of work I would be doing. There was never a point where I felt lost or didn't have an idea on where to go/what to do.
The firm gave us a few opportunities to gain a further insight into the company and the teams I worked with helped a lot with personal development/skills. The two that stand out to me are; access to attend the midland strategy day and organising a breakfast where all of the interns were able to meet partners within the firm.

Very appealing. PwC strikes me as a really good company which allows a fantastic work/life balance! I'd definitely be more than willing to rejoin the firm after graduation if I am given the opportunity to.
The Culture
From the beginning of the internship there was a 'social scene' established amongst interns that were keen. We were also invited along to the monthly office socials which occurred - this was another opportunity to meet people from all around the business whether they were interns or held more senior roles in the firm.
I lived at home with parents so I am probably not in the best place to answer this.
Pretty good. We are based in the center of Birmingham so it's the same as any other major city in the UK. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from after work but also the opportunity to go to a few of the clubs if you fancy that with the other interns.
Opportunities for myself were limited as I wasn't based in the office much during my internship. However I did manage to play a bit of football after work with my team one evening. A few of the other interns managed to play in a local indoor football league with a few other colleagues.
