The Role
The work placement was very enjoyable, very friendly people. During the initial start colleagues were supporting and were there to guide us towards the PwC culture. The office is quite small, so you get to know allot of people within it and learn the culture. Very willing and helpful people.
I felt valued by most of the managers and other team members. I felt like the work I was doing was actually making a difference to their workload and helping complete the audit. As they give you responsibility over an EGA, which is actually really nice. People truly also want to help you.
My supervisors were there always to give me support whether i have 1 or 100 questions they would always answer them. This is the culture of PwC, they expect you to ask questions and want to support you. The guidance given by them truely actually helps you learn rather than shadowing.
Some days I was in the office I was not very busy, I had to find work from people by asking. However some days very quite the opposite very busy, allot of work to do and deadlines to complete work. So it is great because there is a balance of work.
There was a lot of responsibility given to us as each EGA was actually assigned to you. No one really checked our work, as you would expect to constantly. Actually they expect you to ask questions if you don't really know. They give you a task, and expect you to complete it without - instead of shadowing them.
The skills I learnt on the internship were not directly applicable to my degree. However the soft skills were great, Eg. talking to high level officers. It was great though as over time I can see the skills of being in a large firm can be applied in the real world.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office is great very supportive and kind. Overall everyone is there to support us and support everyone. Asking questions when you are lost is great. It is like family and friends- socials unfortunately i didnt go on any however i have heard everyone is like friends.
There was a very organised structure to the work placement. Using PwC system spark pad and talent link you could always see what you were booked to or where you have to go. However this is not always accurate as some jobs don't happen. Or sometimes it says you are away and you arent.
The firm invested allot in us during the 3 days residential at the start of the internship. They truly was to invest in you and want to see you grow. There is a system called inform which has a plethora of video which can enable you to learn and develop.
They have offered us a graduate job which is almost definitely a good start. There is a lot of prospects in such a rapidly growing firm, moving within the company or moving up the ranks there is a clear path of progression. But future prospect are there for sure and are amazing.
The Culture
yes initially at the start of the internship there is a residential where you get to meet all the interns from across all the offices UK wide. Which is amazing to get to meet everyone and have drinks and properly socialise. However also our small team interns we are all friends.
Crawley has mainly chains of restaurants and not much apart from the local shops so pretty standard for london/surrey. cost of rent is much cheaper i have heard from the current senior associates that are residing in crawley. Socials are mostly in London as you would expect expensive dependant on the place.
Night life in Crawley to be honest I never went out in Crawley. Walking around there are a few bars and clubs. But i dont think there is much, the office actually does drinks every friday so i find that its not nightlife but a good social scene within the office.
Not really there wasn't any activities to get involved outside work, but i guess this is due to being on an internship. i have heard about the one day - one firm where everyone in PwC that day helps and volunteers. generally however there isn't clubs, but i have heard of a football tour.
