The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at PwC. The whole team made me feel very welcome and I felt included. I was involved in the Data Analytics team at their Birmingham office and was assigned a buddy who was just about to finish her first year on the grad scheme. This really helped me to integrate well with the team.
The colleagues I worked with were absolutely lovely. I was worried beforehand that going to a "big 4" company all the people would be quite "businessy" and blunt but this wasn't the case at all. Everyone was very happy to answer my questions or free up some time in their diary to talk to me about things.
The support on the whole process was great. I had 3 meetings with my "people manager" who was in charge of my whole time at PwC. There was one at the beginning, one in the middle and one at the end. Although this was plenty for me she always made sure I knew she was readily available for questions should I have any.
Unfortunately the time of the year is not particularly busy at PwC. This is good in a way but meant they were struggling to find us work that we could do. A fair amount of the internship was based around personal development because of this and I have been focusing on developing my technical skills.
During my internship I was treated as if I was an associate (the level you would be if you came in on the grad scheme/from scratch). This meant that any work I completed was treated as though it was correct and went through the same processes it normally would. Although saying this, everyone is happy to double check your work for you before you send it off.
I have definitely increased my technical and interpersonal skills during my internship. Before the 6 weeks I had no idea what some of the coding systems were let alone how to use them. Now I feel I have a much better idea of what they use in data analytics which will help me both in my final year and during my future career. You'll be amazed how much you can do on excel as well!
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was very friendly. I would often go out for lunch with my team or colleagues. When working there is never a quiet moment and you're not ever sat in silence. However there is a quiet room if you are working to some tight deadlines!
From the get go I was very impressed with how structured the internship was. The 西瓜视频 recruitment team clearly know what they're doing and I was constantly get updated with what was happening. They are always looking for feedback on how to improve and I think this is how they have become so organised and how the process has become so fluent.
I was very surprised that the company invested as much as they did on me. The first few days were all set at a residential training in a hotel near London. From this, the training never stopped! Throughout my time I was coached on how to use relevant tools and everyone was around to answer my questions.

From the internship the company have the choice whether to offer you a returning graduate offer. This job really appeals to me and I feel like the internship just gives you a good overview about what a future job would entail, as well as introducing you to the team you could be working with.
The Culture
Although I was only there 6 months, there were a lot of socials that you could attend throughout the company. As I was in assurance I was assigned a social group which was the same as my buddy. This group then organise socials throughout the year and I know in the past they have done things like go-karting or crazy golf as well as the standard pub nights.
The office is right in the centre of Birmingham so the pricing is just general Birmingham prices. From my experience these prices are quite decent for a city and the socialising and living costs are fairly standard. For me it seemed cheaper than average but not so much that is was noticeable.
Birmingham has plenty of nightlife as it's such a big city! Broad street is a popular favourite with 西瓜视频s and I've heard that the mailbox is a good place to visit. There are numerous pubs/bars dotted around the city and if you want a good night out you are certain to find one.
As I was there 6 weeks there weren't too many opportunities but even then there were a few socials with both the team and the office in general. If you are there over a year there are plenty of socials to get involved in which range completely from nights out to crazy golf! There are sports clubs as well that you can get involved in but I didn't learn much about these.
