    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed certain aspects of the internship. Sometimes the work was quite interesting and the team was really good (fun and supportive); at other times, there were little work and I was pretty much working on my own, but that is probably the nature of being in a small office.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Sometimes I felt like I was helping the team massively and really contributing towards the project. At other times, when working was scarce, I felt like more of a nuisance than a help. However everyone made me feel very welcome and I always knew there was someone I could ask for either work or help.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All of management were really great are supporting me through my placement. If I ever had an issue, I always knew of people to message and they would sort it out (or try to) right away. The buddy system was also really good, as it was like an instant friend/helping hand.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Again, it varied. On some projects, I was super busy and had plenty to do all week. On others/if I wasn't booked to anything, I found there was very little that I was actually able to do. This wasn't really managements fault, often it was more down to resourcing/the clients not sending the appropriate documents.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given more than expected. Within my first couple of weeks, when on client sites, I was expected to go and seek out the client to ask any questions I had. At first this was nerve wracking, but soon I felt comfortable dong so and appreciated how helpful everyone was.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Given that I study a science degree, it won't directly help me. However it has given me something to focus on, and has inspired me to throw myself in to my final year of uni. It has given me a taste of accounting, and so I now need to decide whether or not it is for me.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office vibe was really good; it's casual wear, people often go out for lunch, and there's lots of coffee machines and fruit around. However you are rarely in the office as you are so often at client site, and these offices vary from client to client - but most are a lot more formal.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It wasn't that well organised. For the first week we weren't really assigned to projects/clients, so there was little to do and it was slow to start. For the middle few weeks, we all had clients and knew what we were doing. By the end, it had dropped off again.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt the firm invested in us quite a lot. The first few days we spent in a really nice hotel learning about the firm and what they do, which was useful and fun and we met a lot of people. Throughout the placement they were happy for me to finish work early to talk to people from other departments and find out more about the company.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Pretty appealing. By doing the internship you pretty much have a guaranteed job offer, which is great. PwC also treat you very well; there are lots of benefits and ability to alter your career. The only thing that would hold me back is the potential for having to work very long hours.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • In my second week of the placement, there was a summer ball (free food and wine!), which pretty much everyone went to and was really fun. Other than that, there weren't really many socials, definitely not as much as I was expecting. I suppose because everyone is out on separate clients it's hard to get everyone together.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I worked in Cambridge, which was pretty expensive. It's almost as much as London, but without London pay. I'm not from here so I had to rent, which took a pretty big chunk out of my paycheck every week. Socialising is quite expensive too; more so than I was expecting.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Pretty much none. There are a few bars and pubs and some smaller clubs, but not really much else. I did not have much opportunity to experience it. I would imagine it would be better in term time when there are more 西瓜视频s around as it would be much busier.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not particularly. I didn't come across anything personally. A couple of the other male interns had the chance to play cricket which sounded quite fun, but I think that's the only thing I came across. Again, it is probably because Cambridge is quite a small office with a small workforce.
