The Role
I very much enjoyed my internship, I was given much more meaningful work than I was expecting so as a result I learnt a lot. I worked in 2 different teams and one was a lot better at giving me interesting work than the other. As I was with the better team for more time, 8/10
I felt very valued by the first team I was with, who welcomed me in easily and made me feel like I was one of the team from the beginning. There was a completely different vibe in the second team I was with, who only really spoke to me to give me tasks.
Being given people managers and buddies was really useful. They were two points of contact for anything I needed, and they were really good at making me feel like I could ask them anything, no matter how simple. They were also really good for being available whenever, I felt like I could always give them a call or send them a message.
Inevitably, this varied from day to day. On average, I think that I was busy 75% of the time. This is because the team I was with were trying to give me meaningful work that would help my development, and they took time out of their day to explain it to me. I think that they could have kept me busy the whole time, but I would not have learnt nearly as much as I did.
I was given a good level of responsibility during my internship. I don't think that being given too much responsibility early on is a good thing, but I felt like I could let someone on my team know if I thought it was too much. I got to do calculations where it was crucial that my answer was correct, and I found this exciting.
I think that the skills I learnt, like becoming much better on Excel and powerpoint, will assist me more after university than during it in my final year. This is because I don't tend to use these tools in my studies, but I feel more prepared for once I have finished uni.
The Company
The general atmosphere depended on the team I was with, one was very open and friendly, with people asking you how you're doing and if you wanted to go get a drink etc. The other was still friendly, but people were a lot more focussed on their work and not on seeing how others are doing.
The internship was very well organised, with a 3-day orientation at the beginning, then we were placed into our teams where people were expecting us. After, we were able to move between teams relatively easily to gain exposure to different parts of the business. 7/10 for me as when I moved teams, there was less for me to do and no one was really expecting me, but I have heard that this was a one-off.
The company heavily invested in out 3-day orientation, where we took part in team-building activities and training specific to our line of service. Whilst on-the-job, most people were willing to give up some time to teach us how to complete a task, and exposed us to more complicated tools which will be useful in the future.

Future employment prospects are appealing, as I like the clear structure which the company has for promotions and being able to complete professional qualifications which have been paid for you. The flexible working hours and taking part in different work everyday were big positives for me. Some people may wish to leave after achieving the ACA qualification for a higher salary somewhere else but this rarely comes with the same benefits or team spirit I have heard.
The Culture
There was a very good social scene between colleagues. I was lucky enough to arrive on the day of the summer party. There were also nice after-work drinks organised and also included during my time was ice-cream making in the office. I'm not sure how regular these are throughout the rest of the year, but they really brought the team together whilst I was there.
Being in London, the cost of living was always going to be very expensive. It was slightly cheaper for me as I go to university in London so I could stay in my accomodation over the summer. However, prices for food at lunchtime and after work drinks could become very expensive.
Again being in London, there is a very diverse range of nightlife which means that there is definitely something for everyone. Colleagues tended to live quite far away from the office itself to find cheaper housing outside of the city, so there is a restriction on how late you can stay out if you're going to take the tube home.
Yes, there were many emails sent round offering opportunities for people to get involved in different activities outside of work, for example playing for a sports team or organising social events for others. There are lots of activities in general in London anyway so you're never short of something to do.
