The Role
I really enjoyed the people and the atmosphere of the working environment here at PwC. It was very accommodating and the internship was structured very well. I never found myself wondering what to do next or where to go. Everything was very organised and there was always someone to help when I was lost.
I was given responsibility at an early stage and felt integral to the team in terms of the work I was producing. I assisted on important jobs and filled in the gaps where I could. My colleagues were never shy to give me work that was important to the overall audit process.
Every time I was lost of unsure about what I was doing, there was always someone to help and guide me through the work and process. I felt very welcomed and never a stranger to asking for help. Even if my colleagues were busy, they always made time to explain concepts and ideas.
I always had things to do and even when I ran out of things, if you were proactive with looking for jobs people were very helpful, so overall never stuck doing nothing. Overall, tasks within my scope and ability were assigned to me but if I finished with them my colleagues tried to find more things for me to do.
I found that the team treated me as one of them as opposed to an intern so was given lots of responsibility at an early stage. Ultimately the tasks I completed would've been completed by someone else in the team so was integral to the overall audit process so I felt a lot of responsibility was given.
Excel skills was a big skill developed. Going into the internship I hadn't been exposed to much excel, but having finished I can confidently say that I've become a lot more proficient in it. The experiences were so varied and unique so the opportunity to pick up various skills in various places.
The Company
The general atmosphere was overall very accommodating and welcoming. The office itself was very beautiful and the people were friendly and always willing to help and guide. Whether it be finding extra work or simply a friendly chat, there was always someone willing to help and talk when anything troubled you.
I feel the internship was set up very nicely. There was a structured approach starting with the induction which included some training. After, tasks were assigned based on your ability and if you were ever stuck, help was always given. The whole process went seamlessly and I was never left not knowing what to do.
The internship started with a few days of training which was very useful and set the tone for the rest of the internship. Training and guidance was always given whilst on client site whether it be by a manager or a first year. Personal development tools and training could always be found.

I've found the whole experience invaluable and I've learnt so much throughout my time here. The prospect of future employment is very appealing.
The Culture
Being placed with other interns in the exact same position was very comforting as we were all in the same situation. Although we didn't see much of each other during the day (as we were all working on separate things). We made an effort to go grab dinner every so often and catch-up.
I'm at university in the city I applied to, so already had a house down here, so I wasn't paying any extra than I would have (exc bills). Overall I feel Southampton is quite cheap, accommodation is reasonable price and most things are within walking or cycling distance which makes travelling more convenient.
Having studied in Southampton, I'm quite familiar with the nightlife which I enjoy greatly. There's always an event or a night out which offers diversity when deciding what to do. During the internship I wasn't able to get involved with the nightlife due to other commitments but can safely say that Southampton offers a great one.
There were socials offered and paid for including a cricket social which was very enjoyable. Considering the short term nature of the internship, other opportunities to get involved with activities outside of the workplace were not easily doable due to the commitment and the fact I was rarely in the office.
