The Role
This internship allowed me to explore a variety of jobs involved in risk assurance. I enjoyed it very much as I was able to put forward opportunities I was interested in and the team always found work to suit my interests. I was constantly learning new things and had plenty of support to overcome challenges.
I was treated like a team member form the start, and the team trust me with responsibility. Many times I was told to go off and complete the work and they were always available to answer any queries. Giving me an opportunity to complete the work by myself without being spoon fed made me feel very valued.
The entire team was very supportive and were always willing to help with any queries I had. We had regular meetings to ensure I was comfortable and to get feedback. It was very easy to approach the team and anyone else to discuss any concerns. Catch up sessions were booked by the team to ensure that the support was given.
Each day was different. On weeks where I was put on bigger projects with a lot of work I was relatively busy . However, when bookings fell through, and I had to ask for other work , the team sometimes struggled to find work that was suitable. This could have been organised better.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility and I had access to original data for all the projects I was working on. I was trusted to manipulate and data and analyse it with my own logic and ideas. I was treated like another team member and given enough responsibility without feeling overwhelmed.
I learnt to use many new software which help me with my technical capabilities. Most importantly I learnt managerial skills, team work and time management skills. These will be very useful when completing group projects at university or managing large individual projects such as the final year dissertation. Overall all these skills will hugely impact decision making and project completion in the workplace.
The Company
The overall atmosphere was great. Colleagues were always happy to be at work and support the interns. It was very easy to fit in with the team and get used to the office. Colleagues also constantly thrived to achieve a better solution/ finish work properly which presented a very motivational atmosphere.
It was decently organised as we all received schedules and plans at the very start of the internship. However, many unexpected changes were made throughout and when bookings fell through - it was hard to be organised as people were always busy completing their work and struggled to find suitable work to give to interns.
The training during the residential induction was very useful and helped a lot with the work we had to undertake. Throughout the internship, colleagues constantly offered help and helped resolve technical issues whilst explaining the software. The amount of training that was required was given to us from the very start.
Flexi Time
Working from home
It seems like a very friendly environment with new challenges everyday. This would be a great opportunity and would be a very enjoyable experience to to start your career in. Future employment prospects are very appealing due to a balance between the technical work being interesting and the value and support the employees are given.
The Culture
The interns were very well acquainted and got along very well. We attended socials together and spent some time after work hours together as well. The relationship between other colleagues were very good as well, as we all had lunch together and communicated well throughout the day. The away day was also very useful to get to know colleagues in the other offices.
The cost of living was very good. There weren't many social events during the 6 week internship that I was here for. But overall, it seems to be good.
There wasn't much opportunity to go out and experience the nightlife during the 6 weeks - however, from colleagues and other interns, it is clear that there is a very good nightlife atmosphere. There's always opportunity to go out and colleagues are always willing to go out as well provided they don't have have anything critical the next day.
There were plenty of opportunities. There were activities such as meditation that were greatly advertised. Walking tours around the city and other similar activities were also organised. The location of the office ensured that there was always plenty to do around the office as well outside of work hours throughout the week .
