The Role
Everyone was so friendly and welcoming and I was able to get involved in any work that I wanted to. I got to experience a wide variety of areas within audit and it gave me very useful insight into what I would like to do in the future. I would highly recommend this internship.
Everyone that I met from all levels of the company were aware of who I was and that I was there on an internship. Everyone was very happy to take time out to explain what they were doing and to offer me advice for the future. I got on very well with everyone that I worked with and this made the whole experience much more enjoyable.
When I started each project each supervisor had worked out what work I was going to be doing. They offered very clear explanations on how to do the work as well as always being available to answer questions whenever I had them. I feel that PwC got the right balance between giving me work to do independently as well as working alongside other members of the team.
This very much varied depending on which client I was working on. A lot of the time this was due to whether the client had sent us all of the information that we needed or not. When visiting the client I was extremely busy and was very surprised to find how quickly the days went.
I was responsible for a lot of the work done in the auditing process and was trusted by the team to get this done efficiently and to a high standard. I really enjoyed having this responsibility but also felt that I had people to ask questions to whenever I needed it. I was trusted to work independently for a whole day whilst being able to contact my colleagues via google hangouts.
This experience has shown me exactly what I want to do as a future career. I have developed some very important skills including communication with clients as well as within a team. I have significantly improved my technology skills - specifically excel. I have learnt how to manage my time and to stay on top of all of the work that is outstanding.
The Company
The Manchester team have recently moved to a new office. There are areas for work as well as areas to relax. The large terraces were a nice place to go outside to have lunch and to have a break. Everyone was very friendly and the general atmosphere was friendly and happy and everyone seemed to be working productively. During the world cup they had a big screen showing all of the games each day.
The overall internship was very well organised. The introduction put us all at ease so that we were ready to start client work on week 2. I was able to experience three different clients on both risk assurance and core assurance. Everyone was aware who I was and that I would be working with them. There was always work planned for me to do. I had regular meetings with my people manager to ensure that I was on track through my internship.

The Culture
The internship begins with a three day residential for all of the interns in England. This involved 220 of us being in a hotel in Windsor for a number of learning and team building activities. Once in the Manchester office there were a number of different social activities organised by the interns as well as PwC.
The nightlife around the office is great. There are a number of bars and restaurants just outside the office as well as 20 Stories upstairs. There are a number of different options for nightlife including bowling, ping pong, and many bars. There vary in how expensive they are. Going for afterwork drinks was very easy and a big part of the internship.
