The Role
I found my internship to be a very enjoyable experience. The 3 day induction in Windsor was a very good way to meet a lot of the other interns and also to ensure we were not thrown into the deep end. Overall, the whole team enabled the experience to be very enjoyable, with plenty of socials and a great working atmosphere
Even at the point of arrival, I felt very welcomed by my colleagues, and throughout my internship this was displayed even further. I was always included in anything going on, and further, many people provided me with different pieces of work. More importantly, I was always provided with a descriptive background which helped me gain much better knowledge in the area (tax).
The support and guidance given by both my 'people manager' and my 'buddy' has been exceptional throughout my internship. My Buddy greeted me and made me feel very welcome upon arrival. Further, whenever I had any issues, both work-related and personal, both were available immediately, and very helpful in providing direct support or pointing me in the correct direction.
I was fairly busy throughout most days during my internship, provided with pieces of work from various individuals spanning 3 different departments which enabled me to remain interested in what I was doing and to gain a wider scope of understanding. There were a few days where work ran a bit short, however this is understandable with summer not being the busiest season for tax.
I was given a limited amount of responsibility throughout my internship, as often the tasks I performed were not of the greatest length. Although, I very much appreciated the opportunity to participate and contribute in a client meeting. This made me feel as though I was trusted, even as an intern, to be client facing, a great responsibility.
I feel the skills I developed further, during my internship, will be very useful. Having gained a further understanding of the various niches within tax, and I feel this is great to have as general knowledge. I also gained proficiency in using the G-suite and understood different functions of excel better. Further, I gained some exposure to tax-related platforms, which will be useful if I undertake a career in tax
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was the complete opposite to my expectations. The office was both very relaxed as a whole and everyone was extremely friendly. This relaxed environment, alongside the 'dress for your day' policy meant the focus was on the work rather than having to look or act a certain way.
Overall, my internship was organised fairly well. I was initially impressed by how well set up the induction was, where everything went smoothly. Also meeting my buddy and getting set up in the office was great. The only improvement I could offer would be perhaps providing more structure, in terms of the work I would be doing throughout my internship.
The firm invested a good amount of time and money into ensuring, when I wasn't busy with work set by my colleagues, there was always something I could do for my personal development. This included being given various learning pieces related to excel, and other computer software. Further I was given various learning pieces related to tax specific areas.

I would certainly consider working here in the future!
The Culture
There was a great social scene amongst most of my fellow interns, most of whom were up for a night out fairly frequently.
I cost of living, obviously depending on area, is very reasonable in most places. And with the very good train and bus network, even if you lived not immediately in the city centre, it is always a very short travel in to get to work. The cost of socialising in most places is very reasonable, even cheap in most.
The nightlife in Birmingham is amazing, with a great selection of bars, pubs and clubs. I particularly enjoyed going to some of the pubs in the jewellery quarter, as well as, some of the venues in brindley place, and even some of the clubs along broad street. The places picked for the social were always good also.
There were several opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, most of which were taken. This included the opportunity to leave the office for a day to help out with the charity 'princes trust', on an activity day, which was a great experience overall. Also, there were several socials and a couple of 5-a-side games after work which were a lot of fun as well.
