The Role
Greatly enjoyed. Treated very well by the company from a paid for induction at a hotel in Windsor to team socials when in office. The workforce is extremely welcoming, nice and sociable and I was involved with lots of social activities such as nights out, lunches and I was invited into the department fantasy football league.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues and the company. The company didn't seem to cut any corners and from the induction to the end of the placement the interns were treated well. When in the office my colleagues were extremely welcoming and made me feel part of the team.
During the induction you attend some classes to improve your knowledge of the department you will be working in. You are put in touch with a buddy in your office who is normally an associate who is able to give you advice and answer any questions you may have. You're also assigned a people manager who helps you throughout your placement.
My buddy endeavoured to give me as much work as possible. Given the nature of a 6 week internship I sometimes ran out of things to do. However when this occurred my buddy organised for days and afternoons in other departments of PWC where I could see how other departments worked increasing my knowledge of the business.
I was given as much responsibility as possible during my internship. Bearing in mind I had no prior knowledge of tax and the internship was only 6 weeks I was able to do a wide range of roles and would always be able to check if what I did was right with a more senior member of staff
Knowledge of tax will be really useful in the future if I were to ever go into a job in the tax sector and for personal use also. I learnt a lot of soft skills also from how to format emails to clients as well as how to talk to clients over the phone
The Company
The office atmosphere was very relaxed and sociable. The dress code is dress for your day which helps you feel relaxed. You are not encouraged to work in silence and everyone is chatty. As long as you get your work done and aren't distracting you can work how you like there are also break out areas which can be used for discussions
The internship was extremely well organised from the start of the application process to the end. I found out how I'd done at each stage of the recruitment process promptly and given a lot of detailed feedback. Before starting we were given a lot of detailed information which was very useful
The firm invest a lot of money in your training. During the induction you receive a lot of training in the sector you're entering. This is delivered in a classroom environment and they get a number of experts in their fields into the classroom so that the information is correct

PWC seems like a brilliant place to work. It is very relaxed and there seems to be a lot of benefits for every employee. It is extremely sociable and there always seems to be something going on somewhere and everyone is more than happy for you to get involved. The hours people work don't seem to extortionate either
The Culture
The social scene was good. The company laid on socials for us during the three day induction which included a street food market and a dinner which was attended by the partners. When in the office we were able to organise socials between us and we had a partner - intern breakfast also
The cost of living wasn't too extortionate. I was living in Birmingham so it wasn't ridiculously priced considering it is a major UK city and when compared to London it was cheap. It is possible to stay at 西瓜视频 halls for the 6 weeks which seemed to be relatively well priced and were in a good location
The nightlife was good. There is something for everyone as there are a number of different bars around the office and in the city. The office is based in the city centre about 10 minutes walk from New Street station so there are a lot of places to go within walking distance of the office
Yes there were. There is a monthly social which is organised by a committee within the company. I also got arranged in a range of activities such as fantasy football with my department. Sports are also organised and I played 5 a side football which was a really good laugh.
