The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed working at PwC, the work was varied and interesting, and the internship went by really quickly. The team I worked with were nice and friendly and made me feel included within the team.
I feel as if members of the team valued me as a worker, through setting me challenging and important tasks to hearing my input on client issues or how a piece of work could be done.
I had weekly meetings with my careers coach and had a buddy on hand I could ask anything to so I felt very well guided by them as to how I could improve my work and demeanour within the office. I also felt that I could very easily ask any questions or voice any concerns I had.
The first two weeks were rather quite but after that the work picked up, when there was not much to be done I spent time learning more job specific content so I could be more useful in work later on, which I think worked well.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility, most of my work was reviewed by someone more senior but I also made calls unsupervised and pulled together sizeable amounts of work without anyone peering over my shoulder. The independence was a nice feeling.
I learnt a lot about time management and prioritisation of tasks, which will be invaluable in my degree. I also learnt smarter and better ways of working, especially with the Microsoft and google software packages, which will hopefully help me more in my studies.
The Company
The office was professional but also fun. People seemed to care about each other and asked or spoke about their lives outside of work rather than just work, which was nice. There was a real team spirit amongst those I worked with and everyone wanted the entire team to succeed in all their endeavours.
I think the internship was set up very well. There were clear directions for what to do and the important moments (first day on induction, first day in office and last day in office) ran very smoothly. The only improvement I would make is ensuring interns have access to the correct software instead of them having to request access then wait a few days.
The firm gave me full access to a number of online resources and gave me my own laptop. This allowed me to learn more technical skills that benefited my job performance as I had a deeper understanding of the work that was going on around me. The laptop also allowed me to work from home if I needed to.

They are very appealing. I thoroughly enjoyed the work and I hope that with a deeper understanding and more responsibility I will only enjoy it more. The firm also looks after its people very well with benefits and the opportunities to travel internationally and domestically. I hope i get to work here in the future!
The Culture
Amongst other interns there was a good social scene, we usually had lunch together and often went for a drink or a bite to eat after work together which was very nice. Amongst colleagues there appears to be a fairly good social scene with organized socials and social events every few weeks.
The cost of both is fairly good, as Leeds is a relatively cheap area. Being from Leeds I was able to live at home and commute but renting within Leeds is not too expensive either. With socialising costs can vary greatly with the location but it tends to not be too expensive.
Nightlife in Leeds is very good. There are a lot of bars and clubs that you can enjoy. There are also several theatres and cinemas that can entertain you for hours. Some activities can be rather expensive but if you seek out deals or go on quieter nights it can end up being quite cheap!
There appears to be a lot of opportunities for this when you work full time but not many when you are on the internship. The firm greatly promotes outreach and recruitment, as well as volunteering for local charities or causes. The firm even allots work hours for this so employees can work spend a few days a year volunteering.
