    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The Spring Week at Goldman Sachs was hugely insightful and I really enjoyed it. Given it is 2 weeks long, it really gives a better understanding of the inner dynamics of the bank and of what a job there would entail. The programme is really well organised with a plethora of opportunities and support offered.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Every person we had the opportunity to interact with throughout our time as Interns at the Firm, made us feel valued and part of Goldman Sachs. Furthermore, the Human Capital Management programme leaders dedicated their time to making sure we were all making the most out of the insight, and were always available for any questions we may have had.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The support throughout the insight was amazing, we were assigned Buddies before we even started - full time employees who were there to answer any questions we had about working at Goldman Sachs, the Buddies were integral to our understanding of the firm and the different divisions. Further to that HCM was hugely helpful throughout the program and were invested in our success.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • We had the opportunity to take part in group work, case studies, presentations, debates and many other activities which developed presentation and public speaking skills which will definitely prove useful in the future. Further to that, we were given technical training to ensure we all had a better understanding of some of the basic financial and accounting knowledge needed for these presentations, this was hugely helpful- especially for those not from a finance background.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The program was really well structured, we were kept busy the whole time. We were also given some free time to explore the online learning resources, network or work on our case studies. The mix of independent work, learning, talks, and training kept us busy and entertained for the duration of the insight. The program ran smoothly and all the sessions we had the opportunity to attend were very insightful.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Every person we interacted with was enthusiastic and genuinely loved their job and the firm. The class of interns was also an incredibly bright group of people, the desire to learn and ask questions in such an environment is infectious. All the interns were a pleasure to work with. From the beginning of the program it was always emphasised that we were only competing against ourselves rather than fellow interns, thus this fostered a real sense of community and team work amongst interns.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Goldman Sachs went above and beyond to ensure the program was beneficial to all. We had the pleasure of attending talks from employees of the firm, ranging from analysts to very senior employees and partners. We were constantly given feedback to ensure we were getting the best out of the program, and the technical training we were offered was also very beneficial.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight gave us the opportunity to constantly interact with GS employees as well as hearing many of their stories and their paths into banking. The case studies and presentations were also very helpful in allowing us to understand what a day as an analyst might look like. Having Buddies and being able to ask them any questions we may have had also helped illuminate what the job of an analyst might entail. We were also given many talks on how our career might look like and progress during our time at GS

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Throughout the program there was a strong emphasis on understanding and living the company culture. The collaborative nature of the work at GS was emphasised in every talk and we got to experience it as we worked on our case studies and presentations.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Everyday we learned something new about a different team, or division which operates within the firm. We had the opportunity to hear the stories of different employees and see where our skills could fit in, and in what team we would be a good fit. Given the program was 2 weeks, we had plenty of opportunities to understand all the different areas of the firm.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Our buddies were our first point of contact in the firm, and they often introduced us to other analysts in different teams. There were also several networking opportunities throughout the program, these were well organised and everyone we interacted with was very happy to talk to us and answer our questions. Most of our sessions and talks also allowed for extensive Q&A sessions which were an important part of understanding the work of different teams and getting to know the employees of the bank.
