About You
I absolutely loved having this experience. It really made me more aware of my interest in the firm and IBD. Due to this experience, I want to learn more and I will be continuing to enrich myself in the topic in order to come back as a summer intern. I learnt a lot about myself and how the culture of Goldman Sachs would fit for me.
The fact that senior people took the time to come and talk to us about their experiences makes you valued. You feel like they want to really make you feel part of the firm, and build yourself. HR was really approachable and supportive, with reflective feedback and guidance.
Analysts came at various points for the study cases. They wanted to really guide us into thinking about our arguments. I want to highlight the constant possibility to ask questions all the time, and have their perspective about how analyst at Goldman Sachs should be like.
Before coming here, my degree courses had not prepared me at all. My first year is very much elementary and does not touch about finance. However, I feel more confident about my accounting and finance classes in the coming 2 years of my degree. This could determine my choice as to majoring in either finance or economics next year.
The Company
I felt there was a good balance between information sessions and practical activities. Maybe there could have been the possibility to make the talks longer and maybe not the case studies which were a bit complicated for people who had no previous knowledge of finance. There could be more soft skills and knowledge absorption activities.
I felt that as days went by, people became more comfortable with each other. There are always people who will have a more competitive mindset, but I understood that my language skills allow me to approach people from different nationalities and they appreciated that. After the debate, a lot of my peers gave me very positive feedback and it shows how much support you can get from the people doing the internship with me.
Constant availability to ask feedback from HR and the training of the soft skills was really an asset.
I gave me a good insight on the job but because some people like myself do not have a good knowledge of finance, it was difficult to understand the role fully.
The constant exposure to the culture started from day 1. A lot of similarities as well in the culture were expressed by the people who came to talk to us. I felt, as an intern, really part of the firm by the end of the internship.
I believe it might be a bit early for to decide where in finance I want to go, but I'm very sure that I would want to come back in order to learn more in depth the IBD division and the potential career path which I will be pursuing.
Everything Else
A lot of opportunities, both in informal and formal ways, which gave good insight on the different divisions and roles. Met some people face to face and I really enjoyed how approachable they were.
(see in previous questions)
One talk specifically talked about it and I would very much like to volunteer since it is something that I am passionate about through scouting.
I will recommend it if they know that they want to know more and that they want to challenge themselves.
