About You
Great insight into the culture of the firm. Immediately felt included in the day-to-day life of the company. Everyone was really approachable and employees really took time to talk to you and answer any questions you may have. The program itself was also greatly structured. We had people come and talk to us from every area of our selected division. this was extremely helpful since it helped get a better idea of the different tasks inside the division and the work flow.
Everyone was really approachable and open. They make you feel welcome from the moment you step into the lobby. No-one treats you differently or dismisses you just because you are here for only two weeks. On the contrary, they take time out of their schedules to meet up with you if you ask.
The Human Capital Management team (HCM) were with us all throughout the two weeks. They were at our disposal for any questions, concerns, problems we had and they were really flexible if a problem did arise. We also had great training the first week so that we were prepared for the second and everyone was up to speed on the basic knowledge.
The technical skills will not be particularly useful for my degree, but I did get and develop other skills that are extremely useful. I learnt to appreciate team work a lot more and became more confident when approaching figures of authority. The technical skills will, however, be useful for future opportunities I may have.
The Company
We had a great combination of time for the projects and talks that gave insight into the firm and the different parts of it. I would maybe suggest to have a little more time on the last days to work on the projects since the days become quite busy with the tasks at hand.
It was extraordinary. And it was mainly because of the people. We had a great group of intern. We all got along and everyone just tried to help each other and learn more about each other's life. The employees in the firm also made us feel welcome and accepted us, never looking down on us, but always willing to help when we asked.
We had great external training during the first week. It was very concise but extremely intense and honestly just fun. We also had programs specifically for women which were insightful and inspiring.
The great part about the insight was how much networking we got to do. We met a lot of people from different positions and backgrounds. After the two weeks, I definitely feel like I have a good idea of what the firm does and what would be my position in it.
That was the main focus of the internship and I definitely think they achieved it. Working in the building, getting added to the email lists and being able to meet with employees of the firm, you really get a taste of how they work.
It was definitly a really useful tool as it helped me get a better understanding of how everything works and what the different sub departments and teams work on
Everything Else
I was paid for the two weeks I was here and it was a fair amount.
You could email any employee and ask for a meeting so that they tell you more about their job. There were also pre-organised opportunities to network with VP's and other employees from different teams.
Greatly organised. In most of them, they managed to create a more relaxed and informal setting so that we felt more comfortable. The employees attitude also helped you feel at ease and they invited you to ask questions.
We did have a panel discussion about life outside of work were they told us how they spent their free time and what were their hobbies. They mentioned a lot of sport activities with the GS employees as well as having the gym downstairs.
Definitely! It was a great experience and definitely worth it. I learnt a lot, met a lot of new people and gained confidence in myself for the future.
