About You
`The work was enjoyable, in the sense of it was mentally stimulating. As full as the schedule was, everything about the spring internship was relevant and interesting which is what made it rewarding. The HR team were also lovely and made a point of including enjoyable activities, such as a pizza and quiz night, through the process.
I felt extremely valued in the process. Firstly, the firm flew in 西瓜视频s from all over Europe and even America showing that they care enough about their young talent to sacrifice funds to have us. They also gave us really nice quality gifts on the first day that again reinforced the fact that they valued our presence.
We were each assigned a buddy who was responsible for us and helped get used to the role and guide us day to day. The actual employees in our team took it upon themselves individually to invest in me, explain things to me and give me exposure to events that I wouldn't have access to otherwise.
The skills I have learnt won't directly affect my degree because I study politics and finance isn't directly related. However, having more macro view about things will be helpful. I really like the change of perspective we are encouraged to employ, to look for trends and connections globally and make a judgement off of it which feeds well into my study of international relations.
The Company
The insight had a full calendar and lots of sessions within your division and for all the interns. We were also given ample time on the desk to experience the roles and meet employees to find out more about the role. The use of Outlook calendar allowed for changes in the schedule to be easily communicated.
It was a great experience. The balance between intensity and fun was struck well and the HR team were lovely. You could sense that no one was trying to trip you up and people genuinely wanted you to succeed. It did a really good job of breaking down assumptions about GS and making the idea of coming here attractive.
The fact that a full roster of Vice Presidents, Managing Directors and Partners took busy time out of their schedule to talk to us and answer questions speaks volumes. The CEO of our division carved out 20 minutes before a flight to answer my personal questions which was truly remarkable.
I came in at the same time as the full time employees, had the chance to go to the gym with them before work on one day and stayed until they left. I got a full view of what their day looks like.my tasks included reading over, checking and giving suggestions on the analyst's work so I had an idea of what work looks like.
We went for drinks as a team so I felt the family vibe. The team were all really personable but also insanely driven which gave me an insight into the type of person who works here. The 14 business principles were reiterated and referred to and the executives who came to talk to us often hearkened back to the culture of GS and shed light on their journey through the firm.
Very valuable, it allowed me to visualise my career path and where I fit in the firm and industry.
Everything Else
I got to meet personally with 20 people outside of the program across 7 days. This is due to the abundant desk time we were provided. The speakers were all open to follow up questions at a catch up. My team all met with me and conencted me to other people I might learn from or share interests with.
I was told about the interest groups and affinity groups.
