About You
I really enjoyed the insight, from the first day of just listening and interacting with the presenters and guests to the second and third day of actually seeing what PwC employees do. It was very well organised and great that we were given laptops to work on, even if it was only for a short time.
I was assigned a 'host' and a 'buddy' for the second and third day, who I was able to shadow, attend meetings with and see their daily work. I was constantly updated on what I'd be doing during the day and the overall leaders of the programmes kept in contact to make sure I was enjoying the insight.
It was really useful to see the specific ins and outs of a day at PwC. I was in the Tech Risk department and so mainly saw what they were doing. My buddy organised for me to meet and talk to various different people, of differing departments and seniority. This was great as I was able to have a discussion with each person about their job and see which department I would like to apply to work in in the future.
The Company
The insight was well structured. Day 1 was a full day of presentations in the data-lab giving us an overall insight into each department within technology. The 2nd and 3rd day was proper shadowing of an employee. On the first day we were split into groups to create a presentation to be presented on the final afternoon. This was a good idea as whenever there was a bit of time with less to do, during the shadowing, I was never bored and always had something to be doing.
It was great to hear and speak to so many PwC employees. The thing that impressed me the most was that everyone was so positive about PwC and clearly love working there. My host and buddy were also very kind to me and looked after me very well. The whole office atmosphere was very friendly, with partners even happy to take time out of their day to talk to me.
I definitely got to see exactly what a full-time role would entail. It was great to be able to see and ask about the daily projects and tasks my host and buddy were undertaking. Obviously the role would vary across the year but I definitely had a great snippet of what it would be like.
As I was able to talk to so many different people in different departments I was able to find out exactly where I thought I would be suited most. It was great on the first day to hear about all of the different Tech departments as I was completely in the dark about what these did.
Everything Else
We were paid an hourly rate for the 3 days but travel expenses were not paid for, unless this involved travelling to client sites or different PwC offices. Although I had to stay in a hotel as I do not live in London, the salary was generous and will have covered at least some of the costs.
This was definitely the best part of the insight. From the start we were able to network with so many different people. My buddy also organised for me to speak to people in different departments as I told her I was not sure which department I wanted to apply for.
It appears that there are fantastic opportunities to get involved in after work. From just socialising with colleagues, there are also sports teams and societies to join and meet people from completely different departments. Although most are funded, some are self funded or subsidised but it seems most employees are keen to socialise anyway.
I would 100% recommend this to a friend. I had a fantastic experience and loved seeing in detail the work that people do as well as just being immersed into PwC culture. I also would definitely recommend this insight as it allows you to have an interview for a Grad job or internship before anyone can apply online.
