The Role
It was a very challenging internship but I learned a lot. However, I did not enjoy it as much as I would have liked to. However, this is due to personal reasons and not because of the summer internship itself. I just found out that investment banking is not the right career for me.
I felt valued and supported during my entire time at Goldman Sachs. There was always someone I could contact whenever I felt lost which was crucial as this happened more often than I anticipated. Nonetheless, through chatting with employees I learned how everyone is willing to help if you need to.
Staff were always there and ready to help if needed. There were always people around you to ask. This was personally important for me because at some times I felt lost and was happy to talk discuss some stuff with the advisors. So there is nothing to worry about and you’ll always be supported.
I think one of the best thing about this insight at Goldman Sachs was all the transferable skills that I have gained as a result of all the networking event and activities. Skills like communication skills due to several presentation or my networking skills have improved significantly by talking to senior managers of Goldman Sachs.
The Company
The atmosphere was not really what I enjoyed. On the other hand, the other interns seemed to enjoy it. Everyone was focussed on ‘winning’ the advisors and employees which is understandable to secure a graduate job. However, I am not this type of person so I was left alone most of the time.
This internship was very well structured and followed a strict programme. Everything was followed perfectly and could be seen as sort of a FAQ. This helped me personally to gain a great insight over my time there and what I can expect which in turned allowed me to prepare mentally and be on top of my game.
The company Goldman Sachs has invested a lot to prepare and organise this internship. Everything was well prepared and structured. Employees, graduate and senior managers have taken their time to talk with all of us. All of the things were provided and their presentations were extensive and specifically tailored to our needs as Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs.
I have not received an offer but I thought that I wanted to pursue a career in the finance industry but this turned out to be wrong. Nonetheless, the content was very relevant to my previous career path and I learned a lot about the company, the tasks of an investment banker and any career opportunities at the company.
The Culture
I would describe the social scene as very pleasing. You do not feel any rivalry from the other candidates. Friendships were formed quickly. There are a lot of group works which gives you the opportunity to get to know your fellow peers. From all the activities, I enjoyed the night time activities the most.
