    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement is the same as the first year graduate scheme, so you get the opportunity to trial a real graduate job and complete 7 ACA exams in the process. The work was varied and you always got to work with new people which was a bonus. Additionally, everyone I worked with was kind and helpful which made the process that much more enjoyable.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Most of the time I felt valued by my colleagues as they would allow me to take ownership of a part of the job. However, this became more prevalent towards the end of the placement as I had much better understanding of the job and having taken some exams, understood better the theory behind what we were doing.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support was given when needed, however due to the nature of such a large firm, you had to be proactive in looking for it. However, this was good at developing an ability to tackle problems by yourself before asking for help.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied. The placement involved college days for the ACA exams as well as working in between. However, days when we were in work tended to be quite busy, with lots of overtime needing to be put in during busy season. However, being part of a team really helped and it was a good learning experience.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During placement I was given as much responsibility as the graduates, which was good as it allowed me to learn the audit skills quickly. I was also tasked with handling some jobs on my own which gave me real exposure to the clients and handling my own time.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed a range of skills which will help me in my future. Communication was probably the most significant, given the nature of the job being talking to clients to get information. I saw my organisational skills bettered and working as part of a team on a daily basis helped me understand people better.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was really friendly and had a relaxed atmosphere. There were few communication boundaries between grades of staff (ie. talking to a manager was not at all daunting) and we got to have dress down Fridays/dress down August as well as a cake trolley every week.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As before, it is the same as the graduate scheme so is well organised.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invests a huge amount of time and money in T&D. Not only are you given extensive training in audit and the processes that the firm uses, but you are also put through 7 of the ACA exams in the first 10 months. This was really useful in helping understand what audit is trying to achieve and the theory behind accounting.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Above 25 days holiday

    Healthcare/Dental

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • A full time job can be secured upon the completion of a placement.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • The social scene amongst my year was very good - as we proactively arranged nights out/ meals etc. However, the more general social scene in the office wasn't quite as good as expected as the socials are quarterly. However, due to working with people you get to know them and you arrange your own things to do.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Newcastle is cheap to live and socialise in.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Newcastle's nightlife is varied and abundant

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • If you know where to look, there are opportunities. Newcastle caters for pretty much any hobby.
