The Role
I enjoyed being put into an interesting and driven team. I enjoyed being pushed out my comfort zone to try and get up to speed with all the information and projects that have been started. Being given freedom and responsibility made it very satisfying when you being to gather information and collate ideas with other employees.
Met one on one with everyone in my team, introduced properly and spoke with them everyday. Even though it took a while to feel fully part of the team, I was given work that helped out the overall progress of everyone's project. Everyone was interested in my background and my interests.
My mentor, manager and buddy all gave me a huge amount of support, helping me with general questions and concerns. Answering my questions about how certain projects are usually run and use the systems as well as getting access to some of them. I met with them all weekly if not more frequently, all very approachable and happy to check in on my progress.
I was not always hugely busy, but I understand as an intern it is hard to integrate us fully into all parts of the teams projects until there is a specific long term role. I took advantage of some free time by picking up bits of work that weren't necessarily in my project but needed doing and also teaching my self new coding skills.
I was given responsibility straight away as I was bought into meetings early on to get up to speed on all the different roles people played as well as the divisions and make up of the federation division. My work is fully integrated in the team and is something that will be used all the way through the project as it is an ongoing process where many platforms will be updated and reused once all the information is up to date and centralised.
I have learnt so many new skills, that will help me to develop in my studies. I have learnt time management and how much can be achieved in one day. Learnt how to set up and lead meetings with people I have never met before, making sure I get the information I want out of them in an effective way. I have also learnt how to code which may not help me with my studies but will help me beyond them.
The Company
The atmosphere can vary as there is very flexible working hours, meaning many people will work from home, as interns we do not get this choice, so often the office quite and not many people will be in. Day to day it is very quite with a few phones calls but not really conversations - but there is an approachable environment between everyone.
It was very well set up with lots of introduction to the firm and all the other interns. We had tours around the facilities and were given lots of talks and events to give us an insight into all areas of the firm as well as events to socalise and meet many other employees from all divisions. Lots of points to ask questions and find out more information about the internship.
The firm has many modules and courses that are all accessible for free so you can take whichever ones you like and that interest you in order to develop areas of weakness or strengths. There were many powerpoints that were set up to walk me through the tooling that me team in particular use and this is also freely available.

Future employment prospects are very appealing to this organisation as they really encourage flexibility and movement, wanting to ensure you are pushed out of your conform zone but also using your strengths to the best of your ability, matching your skills with your team. They are neutral and not bias to any race or gender when it comes to promotions, which is encouraging for all.
The Culture
Yes, all the interns are very friendly with opportunities to meet and socalise at particular events as well we to discuss their work and roles within their team, what they are enjoying and what they are not enjoying. Everyone was inclusive and we all mixed very well, even with those not interning in our division.
The cost of living and socalising in the area that I worked in was very expensive with accommodation and travel being a substantial chunk of my expenditure and time. Socialising was also expensive with drinks and meals being a lot, all totaling up to a large amount, I think not relative to our pay.
Nightlife in my area was good, with many options and choices, as well as the ability to get home easily and to feel safe where ever we went. It was expensive which meant you were restricted on how much you could buy and therefore how much time you could spend in one place or area.
Yes, there were sports clubs and many networks which both in turn held training events in the evenings at venues as well as social quiz nights, breakfasts and talks by inspiring speakers. We also had a community volunteering day which gave us all a great opportunity to get out the office and build on teamwork skills.
