    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My internship has been very enjoyable. The amount you learn in such a short space of time and the steep learning curve you experience is so valuable. The specific team (Solvent Wind Down) was particularly interesting and I feel GS did well to choose the right teams for the right people.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone from top to bottom was willing to give up sections of their time to talk to me. I never felt I was being unreasonable asking for senior members time and they always welcomed further sessions and were happy to do further catch ups. We got great exposure to the senior members of the bank and that really added value to the 10 weeks.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The one thing that was slightly difficult was the timing of the internship. The summer naturally classes with everyone going on holiday and it’s only till the last couple of weeks I’ve had a full team. However, I have always had someone to ask questions to and if I had needed it I would have always had somewhere to go.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I would say the start of my internship was quieter and I became busier over the weeks. This is however, the natural course for all my team as the project I worked on has a deadline of September and this increases work load the closer you get to that deadline. I always had something to do.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The more I understood on the process I worked on, the more responsibility I was given to carry out more important tasks. I’m not sure I could have been given too much responsibility early on in my team as it takes time to understand the scenario and carry out the work that needs to be done.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • What has been a little frustrating if I would have loved this internship before my exams this year as it would have been very helpful in preparation of some of my exams. However, for my finals next year, I’m not sure the content of the work will be too beneficially but the general skills you learn working in GS will certainly be very handy.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was pleasantly busy. Everyone has many things on their plate but you have so much support from everyone it makes it very easy. If you have any questions it only takes 5 seconds to go and ask the specialist in that area and they are always happy to help. This is also inclusive of everyone in the other offices around the world.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • 3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I believe the training could have started earlier, by sending out some materials on firm basics so I could review before joining and have some level of info on the firm. Understanding the basics would have made the first week far easier. The training in job has been very good and will be very helpful for the future.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Everyone I have met has tried their best to get the offer. I think you career opportunity GS gives you and the high level speed of your development is so valuable. I can’t speak for 5/10 years’ time as you don’t know how life will pan out but I personally would love to get the offer and continue on this steep learning curve.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs/colleagues?
  • 3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being a Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵ in London and LSE only being down the road, bar life was already well known to me. I have enjoyed the work socials after work on certain Fridays where you get to interact with people you don’t come into contact with much. From the sounds of it however, I think there should be more department socials organised triyearly or something similar.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 3/5
