About You
I really enjoyed my placement at Goldman Sachs since I learned a lot during my stay and I had a great time in general. Besides, I now have a much better understanding of where I want to put my focus later in my career. I would totally recommend anybody who is interested in finance and markets in general to to the same internship as me.
On the whole I felt really valued in my firm. I knew that the work environment at investment banks is rather busy and that I would be left alone with a lot of tasks. Nevertheless, I had somebody to contact with whatever issue I had and my work was respected as I tried to put in 100% of effort.
As I said in the previous question I was assigned a contact person that I could talk to whenever I needed. Nevertheless, everybody was always friendly and happy to give advise. Besides, I was fully integrated into the company, also with regards to general organisation, such as information and further resource access.
I am not sure if the knowledge I gained will help me with achieving better grades, since the insights I received are mainly of abstract nature and rather relate to soft skills. Furthermore, I was already capable of hard skills related to my studies. Still, the technical knowledge I gained, such as financial modelling, will definitely help me n my future career.
The Company
On the whole, my internship was well structured. I got the opportunity to work on many projects that very structured in a way that helped me, as an outsider, to understand the procedure easily. I had a very clear idea of how my day looks and how I can schedule my tasks. All of this helped me to develop a great insight, that would not have been possible if it would not have been as structured and well organised.
The atmosphere was great at Goldman Sachs. Everyone was motivated and focussed to get the most out of the insight. It was great to see that the employees were very welcoming and to talk to us. It was not as competitive as I have anticipated at the beginning though which is a plus.
The company has invested a lot in me which I think will be very beneficial in my future career path. We have been through several activities, we were shown presentations about the career possibilities and had the chance to network with employees. Through this I have gained valuable skills that will be helpful later in life.
It has helped me a lot to decide what I want to do later in my life. I was not sure if I want to go into marketing, accounting or finance. Hence I gave it a shot to try out what a career is like in the banking industry. Surprisingly I got the internship without much effort and I can envision a career at the company.
I have gained a good understanding of the company culture and what it is like to work for the company Goldman Sachs. All the presentation, activities and networking events with employees have drawn a great picture of what it is like to be part of the company. The competitive image at an investment bank did not turn out to be the case.
Everything Else
I would definitely recommend the internship to a friend. Everything was so well organised and structured and I have not only learned a lot about what it is like to work at a big corporation but a lot about myself and what I want to do in life. I think this was the best thing about this internship.
