The Role
My placement was split into two parts firstly call centre based and secondly a change project management role. I didn't enjoy the first part very much as I felt I wasn't being challenged enough or gaining any new skills and the hours weren't great as you were expected to be available from 8-8 working different rota's weekly. I enjoyed my second placement much more, I bonded with my team a lot more and felt that I was being challenged and gained new skills such as stakeholder management.
In the second part of my placement I felt very valued. I was either given responsibility to lead my own projects without being micro managed or I was completing important analysis helping to contribute to important decisions.
Every morning my team would have a 15 minute catch up to discuss any challenges or success and share best practice. I had a line manager and we would have fortnightly 1-2-1's where we would discuss my workload and see if I needed any support. I had an undergraduate manager where I met monthly and we would discuss the course of my placement so far and next steps. I also had two mentors who were on the customer operations graduate scheme, I found this really useful as it allowed me to understand what a graduate did on the customer ops role, and what was in store for me.
Sometimes I was very busy and had to meet tight deadlines, but I never had to take work home or work over. I always felt I could speak to my manager if my workload was getting to much and I couldn't make the deadlines. Sometimes I wasn't very busy at all and would have to find work, but then this worked out as I ended up completing my university project at work when I had availability.
I was given a high amount of responsibility, I managed my own project and had my own stakeholders where I had to manage their expectations. Along with this, I would analyse data and help to form important decisions around other projects that my team members were leading on.
The analytical and stakeholder skills I picked up will last me a lifetime and in my degree. As for my final year project in the last year of university I had to work with a lot of numerical data, the analytical skills I have picked up will come in very handy here. As for the stakeholder management skills, I can imagine this being very handy when finishing university and going into work.
The Company
The general atmosphere was quite relaxed, people would have meetings and catch ups over breakfast and coffee. Although it was a very corporate environment, people were extremely friendly no matter how senior they were in the organisation. The office I worked in also did casual Fridays.
It was OK. It could have been better compared to the graduate scheme. The graduates were specifically assigned roles and the graduate scheme lead would organise this. With the undergrad scheme we were almost expected to find our own roles, which I didn't prefer compared to the grad scheme. Although, this can be seen as having your own free reign and finding what suits you best. So it's really your own preference.
The company was extremely invested in me, I was able to visit most of the sites in the UK and power sites! I completed an emotional intelligence course, which was provided by the company for my personal development. If you were passionate about something and had a structured case study to support why you wanted to do something, the company would support you to do so.

Future employment prospects within the company look great, theirs a variety of different roles varying from B2B to residential roles whether this be change roles or compliance roles or section management.
The Culture
Most of the undergraduate placements were based in Coventry so there was more of a community there, in Nottingham not so much. There were very few of us in Nottingham and often we were on different shift patterns on the first part of the placement, and then in completely different departments for the second role.
I cant comment on this as I commuted from the West Midlands.
I haven't experienced the nightlife in Nottingham.
There were many opportunities, such as after every quarterly team meeting or project launch the team would go out for drinks. However, as I commuted I didn't really get involved with this.
