The Role
I really enjoyed the vast opportunities to learn new skills and commercial software development practices and procedures
My colleagues would value my input in anything where my project had overlapped into. While this wasn't often, colleagues would often trust me to make small enhancements to larger projects.
My managers generally were happy to help me work through problems I didn't know how to solve. Through weekly catch ups and daily stand ups, I was able to voice any concerns or weaknesses I had found in my performance and seek help and guidance.
As an intern, its not often that you're put on the team's big projects, as a result you're usually working on small self contained projects which generally aren't critical. As a result your days are usually moderately busy, with occasional busy days if you're on support, a project is coming to an end, or if there's an imminent code change freeze coming up.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility, from managing my own projects to working on enhancements for larger more widely used products to working on projects that would eventually go on to be used by the entire department, including the division head.
As a result of working at Goldman Sachs, my programming skills and confidence has greatly increased. I have become a better problem solver and have a better understanding of writing better code. These skills will help me with my self projects over the summer, which in turn will help me excel at my studies come the autumn.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was quite relaxed, and generally very quiet as everyone was focused on their own tasks. At times teams would have their own quirks that would make a different environment around their desks, such as a magnetic dart board used by the team, complete with a monthly competition.
The internship was generally well organised, with events and team building workshops held throughout the year.
The firm began the internship with numerous training for interns only, then allowed interns to join graduates with their training. Throughout however the firm gave interns access to numerous online learning resources, such as PluralSight, Eggheads.io

The prospects of getting a job as a result of a year placement are incredibly high, with past year's 西瓜视频s boasting that nearly everyone is offered a place. With a 2 or more weeks training in New York for all graduates, there is a high appeal for interns to come back to the firm.
The Culture
There was a fairly good social scene among placements with events uniting us regularly during the summer, a mid placement social and numerous leaving socials during the end.
Expensive. But luckily we were paid well because its GS and its London.
N/A
There's an annual onerous on all employees to donate one of their working days to help the community through a pre organised workshop, usually in schools. This year I spoke at a careers workshop about my journey to Goldman Sachs and spoke one on one to 西瓜视频s about their future prospects and what they could do to make their transition to university easier.
