The Role
It was a very interesting, challenging work placement. I enjoyed the networking experience as I now have access to a wide pool of very intellectual people who work hard every single day.
I felt very valuable. It is a very meritocratic culture - the harder you work, the more you will be challenged, which will increase your value to the team. You are constantly being tested and assessed. View it as a year long interview - draining I know! ahah
Every day. Management is willing to meet you as many times as you require. They will offer you all the tools that you need to grow and prosper.
There is always work to do on a daily basis. Goldman Sachs has a culture to give you more work than you can actually do. In this way, they are ensuring that they are always making the most out of you as a human. Making sure you are as efficient as possible is a key tool.
A lot. It's almost as if you have control of your workload and your destiny. The more you work, the more you ask for, the more responsibility you will get. If you sit quiet, responsibility will not be forced upon you, however, it will reflect badly on your character.
It is the best thing that ever happened to me.
The Company
Not the best work/life balance, therefore, the atmosphere is not too jolly. People are working and are constantly looking out for their back. Unproductive employees are quickly let go of, leaving a smell of seriousness in the air of the office,
Started off very laid back and light. Loads of presentations and networking sessions. The transitions into loads of desk tasks for the rest of the time. Throughout the placement, loads of weekly seminars, classes, affinity groups etc
Good pay and also good learning experience. They invested a lot of time into me and they gave me lots of knowledge.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Very appealing. If you work hard for the job, sacrifice a lot time, spend loads of overtime but at the same time balance it with being efficient during them hours, you will get the full time job.
The Culture
Yh. Work placements are constantly going out for drinks which is very good.
Expensive cost of living. 拢6 a day average on lunch and around 拢3 on breakfast. Monthly oyster top ups. Do the maths. But you can save money by bringing in food from home or buying a bowl of cereal and eating breakfast from it every morning.
Decent clubs.
Yes. Loads of drinks out with the team.
