    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I found GS was a tough place to be, and at first it was very overwhelming. The pace of business is very fast and you are surrounded by very intelligent people. However after about 4 months i began to settle in and feel that i was adding real value, I feel the experience has been really valuable and overall I have had an enjoyable experience

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I always felt valued by my colleagues, you are treated as one of the team, generally people do not even mention you are a placement

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I rotated between two teams in operations and was given a lot more support and guidance in my second 6 months, I dont know if this was because i had had time to learn the ropes. However during this second 6 months i was able to increase my knowledge 10 fold and really excel into the roll

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had a lot of spare time. When I had work to deliver things were very busy, but my typical hours did not go over 9-6, and when there were lull's I had to fill this time up with extra activities, on the plus side it meant i had lots of time to meet people for catchups and learn about other bits of the firm and increase financial knowledge.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility in my first time, and a good amount in my second team. There was always support available if I felt overwhelmed.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Fantastic insight and experience. Communication skills increased hugely just with being in such a great business environment, was given coaching to improve presentation skills, and confidence in the workplace has grown hugely.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • People work hard, it is commonplace to have lunch at your desk. However, within my team we had a team quiz every friday, regular team coffee breaks and trips to food markets on friday, christmas lunch out and the people were good fun.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised, a lot of activities and talks in the first 10 weeks when you start with the summer interns, which is a little overwhelming. However you have time to settle into your team and normal work after this first 10 weeks

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given really in depth project management training and the chance to apply these skills. The firm also has a great platform called GSU to learn about finance instruments as detailed as you can go.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am likely to come back if they offer me a permanent full time position (we find out 1 month after our placement ends)

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • In operations you dont get the glamourous nights out or the client entertainment that you do working in front office, however there are regular team drinks and meals (self funded!). HR don't really add anything to the placement 西瓜视频s social life, it was totally up to us to make friends, and some placement 西瓜视频s were not friendly and really preferred to keep to themselves. However after a while I had made a firm group of friends (who loved going out on thursdays and fridays as much as me) among the placement 西瓜视频s who I will 100% keep in contact with, we have had a super enjoyable year together in london.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Super expensive as it is central london but they compensate you well so it is affordable

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I worked on Fleet Street and the nightlife is mostly pubs and bars, the food and drink are good and there is lots of choice but it is expensive

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The subsidized gym is great and I used it about 3 times a week Lots of drinks and things to get involved in if you like GS Talks is great, they have really interesting speakers in There are a number of affinity and sports networks, GS are really into LGBT stuff so good place for that!
