About You
It has been the best work experience in my life so far! I feel that during those two weeks I have learned really a lot, not only about Goldman Sachs, but also about how working in a corporate setting looks like, how important it is to build and maintain your network, or what kind of job I can see myself doing in the future.
The culture at Goldman Sachs is very team-oriented, and I was able to feel that even as an intern. Everyone is always being asked about their opinion, regardless of their previous experience, knowledge or position within the firm. It was no different for interns and I think that was very important for me.
There was a constant support throughout the internship. Each person was allocated a buddy, who is usually an Analyst or Associate and helps you find your way in the firm. On top of that, the Human Capital Management team is very helpful as well, and they are always there to answer any questions you might have.
I study a Finance related course and the things I have learned during the Spring Week have undoubtedly developed my understanding of the subject, while also broadening the scope of my knowledge. Moreover, skills acquired while preparing and presenting group project will be helpful in my future studies and career as well.
The Company
In my opinion the structure was great. In the first week, the schedule is quite busy, while during the second week there is much more free time. Therefore, after gaining a lot of knowledge about different divisions in the first few days, you are then able to accommodate your time in the second week according to your interests or needs.
The atmosphere in the office was amazing. I felt a lot of motivation to work hard during the insight, and everyone around, from other interns all the way up to Managing Directors, was always willing to help. However, before the internship I expected that we would become slightly more integrated within the interns' class, which did not really happen.
I think that they have invested really a lot, since we had plenty of opportunities to meet with employees from all across different positions. Given that their time is certainly very valuable, I felt very special when they would come to us to deliver a presentation or meet with us for a coffee etc.
One of the biggest advantages of Spring Week at Goldman Sachs is that is the longest one available. Therefore, there is a lot of time that you spend in the office and after two weeks you gain clear understanding on what it is like to be a part of the company.
It was indeed extremely helpful. Prior to the start of the internship, I was doubtful about the culture being important for any company. However, after spending two weeks in the firm, I can assure everyone that people at Goldman truly believe in those values, and that was one of probably most remarkable discoveries I have made during the insight.
Very important aspect of the Spring Week. I now have a much better understanding of what a job in the investment banking sector, and my specific division in particular, involves. Thus, it will be much easier for me to make a decision whether that is what I would like to do in the future or not.
Everything Else
Yes. Since I am based outside London area, accommodation in a hotel was provided. Furthermore, all travel expenses were reimbursed as well. I think that is an important issue since many 西瓜视频s are on a tight budget, therefore being paid for the duration of the internship is a great benefit which should be taken into account..
There were a few organised events at which there were many employees present, although in order to make the most of networking opportunities, it is necessary to go the extra mile and set up some meeting on you own. This is encouraged by the team and everyone in the firm is willing to meet with interns, provided that they are not too busy of course.
They were standard networking events with food and drinks provided. It was not anything that would stand out from other similar events, but they were definitely of a good quality and there were many opportunities to speak to different employees, which is great when it comes to expanding your network.
There is a great gym available, and we even had the chance to attend some taster sessions. However, there was not a great emphasis on what other activities there are and I am not even able to name anything specific, although I know about volunteering opportunities for those who want to get involved.
Definitely yes! I would strongly encourage everyone interested in a career in Investment Banking to apply for the Spring Week at Goldman Sachs, since I believe is the best one you can get and you will certainly learn a lot during the two weeks. A truly valuable experience which I will never forget.
