About You
Brilliant insight into the division and firm in general. Employees often went out of their way to help and assist interns, or even just answer their questions. It gave an extremely good impression of the firm in general and certainly entices you to work there in the future.
The culture is very team orientated and it is thus very easy to fit into the firm. In general every member of the team is highly valued on both their opinions and contributions.
Guidance is given but you are not expected to be hand-held through the process, so initiative is certainly required to succeed. Support was readily available if you needed it though.
A lot of the financial analysis and calculations are directly relevant to some finance modules, whilst other more general parts of the programme apply to the Economics part of the degree.
The Company
Sessions were scheduled a long time in advance and there was sufficient time for any other work.
Atmosphere is friendly and outgoing but can be intense, which is largely reflective of the job and industry.
The company clearly invests greatly in finding the right people for cultural fit. All travel and accommodation was paid for and in depth training was given on analysis techniques.
It gave a clear impression of the working culture of the firm and the general atmosphere of the office. The work was perhaps not representative of the full time role but gave a good idea of what to expect in terms of content and workload.
Already covered
It hugely expanded my knowledge of the specific division and in more general terms my interest in the industry. From the experience I am keen to explore a potential career in the sector and was particularly impressed by just how broad the career paths are in this sector. It definitely narrowed down my choice of career path.
Everything Else
There were both official networking events and unofficial ones by simply meeting people in the office or break area.
Standard
There was a big emphasis on the social responsibility aspect of the firm in terms of employees giving up time for voluntary activities. Though the hours are understandably long there was some discussion of leisure activities with many people playing in sports teams on weekends or Friday nights.
