    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed it. I loved every moment of it; from the people I met, to the skills workshops, to the desk time and of the presentations and asset allocation game. I also just really enjoyed the lifestyle of going to the office, it made me feel like I was almost ready to enter the 'real' world outside of the university bubble.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt hugely valued. The whole internship seemed to be about making sure that I was reaching my potential. I think the moments in which I felt most valued though was when we had to give our presentations and asset allocation game presentation because so many Goldman Sachs employees in our teams turned up to watch showing they were genuinely interested in us.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received just the right amount of guidance. I was really pleased that no base level of knowledge was assumed as it meant no question was a silly question - so I asked a lot of questions and got a lot of answers! I thought both my team I worked with and HCM were incredibly helpful.

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think it will seriously help me beyond my degree studies. It's really catalysed my interest in finance, for example, the first thing I did when I got back to Cambridge was to sign up for a Digital banking workshop run by Barclays and initiate a yearly subscription to the Financial Times. Equally the internship installed in my a great work ethic for my current studies.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was really well structured. We had just the right amount of skills classes mixed with desk time. Equally, we were told exactly where we needed to be every day which was really helpful in planning catch-ups and workload etc. That said there was a certain deal of flexibility when it came to the presentations each of us were set by our teams.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere was great. Everyone was incredibly helpful and always willing to give up some of their valuable time for a catch-up. There was an atmosphere of excellence whereby everyone clearly wanted to be the best they could be and I found that a really exciting atmoshphere to be a part of.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested a huge amount in terms of personal development and training in me via the fact they assumed no base level of knowledge. This meant that there were lots of great workshops so I could learn a great deal. Equally the firm just made me perform at my best due to its high and fair expectations on any work I completed.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It hugely helped me and this was largely down to the desk time we were given which really enabled me to see exactly what time people get into the office in the morning, the work they do during the day and when they leave in the evening. Equally, the insight let me meet a lot of people who could be potential co-workers in the future.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It really helped me see that what Goldman advertises on its website as its culture is true. There is a real focus for example, on diversity which I discovered by the fact that of the 155 intrens, 54 different universities and over 10 different countries were represented. There is most certainly also a culture of excellence that I loved.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Really helpful in that I definitely discovered a career path that I know I would enjoy and would keep me motivated. Of course, there are lots of other areas of finance I haven't yet discovered but I know there are lots of opportunities at Goldman Sachs which is a place I'd love to work.

    5/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was really pleased to be paid a very fair amount of money. Especially as no other Spring insight weeks were paid

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were loads of opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of Goldman Sachs. Of course, this was left largely down to me and I really ran with the networking idea so I met as many as possible for catch-ups. HCM also put on a couple of networking events for us which were very useful.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Really good.
