About You
It was very informative. From the beginning of the internship, you could tell that all the activities we would be involved in had been thoroughly thought through and decided upon to give us a full scope of what exactly Goldman Sachs does.
From the schedule, talks, sessions to the way the employees of the firms explain foreign concepts to you, you can tell that this company is collaborative and willing to go the extra mile to develop their people.
We had work shadowing rotations as a part of our schedule, so that we can talk to professionals about the technical aspects of our division. For everything administrative, we were assigned someone from HCM. However, I would say, there's help everywhere, if you know where to look.
I interned in the technology division. You get to understand how exactly, technology really impacts Goldman Sachs in a more focused way. This changed the way I looked at technology, I understand better now its applications- especially in the financial services industry.
The Company
Very very structured, I mentioned before that the schedule was well thought through, even to the extent that amidst our busy schedules, we were allowed time to meet our mentors and other people from the firm.
Lively, Collaborative, Competitive, Intense.
The company has different platforms for training its employees- creating very bespoke katas for individual persons as relating to their different divisions. So as an intern, I was able to quickly get a grasp of some foreign concepts (and abbreviations) that were used so fluently across the firm; Another big help was the presentations made by senior leaders in the firm. When they say they invest in their people they mean it!
I mentioned before that we had work shadowing rotations; Well what that means in lay man's terms is, we get to work with the industry professionals, seeing what they do day-to-day firsthand. As a plus, we are allowed to ask questions about their current and previous projects to give us a broader scope of how technology can be applied.
The Goldman Sachs culture is built on the foundation of collaboration and collective success. I don't think coming from a perspective that it is a possibility the insight didn't give us an understanding of Goldman Sachs' culture is correct- it is embedded in everything they do. You know it from the minute you interact with an employee for the first time. Now think about doing that over 2 weeks.
On a personal level, I always had an interest in technology and the financial services industry, so really for me, the insight programme (getting into its nitty gritty), was a way of furthering my interest in these fields- I believe that when technology works for people, great things can happen and now more than ever, I want that to be my case.
