    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Really great 2 weeks. The days were busy and the activities/talks were interesting and we still had time to enjoy living in central London in the evening/weekend. I was in a division of 12 and everyone got on really well so made the experience really easy and enjoyable. I would highly recommend this to anyone as it is the best possible way to be introduced into the financial sector whilst meeting like-minded people.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • They put a really heavy emphasis on team work and that was really shown throughout. Everyone was more than happy to take time out of their day to speak to us and I never felt like I was a burden to anyone. Even the most senior researchers took time to speak to us and made it clear that we could contact them with any questions so we felt very welcome.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We got given a buddy before we joined so we could ask any questions before we arrived and we could go to them whilst we were there if we weren't sure about something. We also had a HR representative who was with our group throughout the whole process who gave us all of the support and guidance we needed, including timetables, feedback and answering any general queries.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • We did a wide variety of activities and lessons that will really help later on eg we had accounting lessons which will help with my course. We also did multiple presentations with feedback which will really help for future tasks/interviews. Also learning about the financial sector from an insider view makes it much more engaging and understandable than in a classroom so that was great.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • We all got given a timetable and knew exactly where we needed to be and when. We had some allocated free time where we could work on projects or network which was up to us to organise. A couple of times things were added in so you had to keep up to date but it was very well organised.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Although a couple of days we worked long hours and the work was intense at times, I had a great group of people who were very supportive and we all got on really well. The people working there also want you to do really well and it feels like they're on your side the whole time which really puts you at ease and allows you to fully enjoy and immerse yourself in the 2 weeks.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They provided us with feedback half way through the internship and we will receive more feedback when we hear if we have been successful for the summer internship. We had the chance to develop skills in accounting, presenting and networking etc through the sessions and talks we attended over the two weeks.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • We had desks on the floor with the other employees so really got to see what their day-to-day jobs consisted of. We also had many talks from employees and networking opportunities where everyone was more than happy to shed some light on what a full time role consists of.

    3/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Definitely the best way to find out if you fit in with a firm or not. Lots of talks from people in all different parts of the company. Also got to use facilities like the gym (one free gym class) and the canteen so got the full experience of how the company is run.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I'm still unsure but it was great to have 2 weeks in one division as it is so different from just reading what the job description is. We didn't get much exposure to the other divisions of the firm which would have been useful in case we realised we were better suited there but can still apply for a summer internship in a different division if we want.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We got paid for our time there. They also provide accomodation in central London for those of us who lived outside the M25 which was amazing - it was a 20min walk from the office and right by Trafalgar square so perfect for evenings/weekends. They also reimbursed travel on the first day to the office and the last day home.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • They were scheduled times for networking such as on the fisrt day over lunch and after a Women's empowerment talk. Also they provided dinner on the second day so we could network. You could also arrange to see people in your free time in your schedule.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Plenty of opportunities and they made sure you felt confident enough to approach any employee to network by the end of you time there. Social events were mainly organised by the interns which is dependent on your group but we did pub trips and went out for dinner.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We were given access to one gym class which was in the gym in the same building as where we were working. We also had talk about the benefits you receive working there and how different employees manage to balance works and other activities,

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this to a friend even if they aren't sure if they're interested in finance. You get massive exposure to people who really know the industry and want to help you learn. It's a really friendly atmosphere and they teach you everything you need to know for the internship whilst you're there so you don't need to worry about a lack of financial knowledge.
