About You
The effort put into the program by both the HR team and all of the people working for the firm was very obvious from the start and in my view it was key to its successful delivery. I have personally gained a lot from the program both in terms of soft skills and financial understanding. Moreover, I learn a lot about the firm麓s culture and the kind of people that work for it. The only negative feedback that I could give was the fact that the email platform that we were provided with failed several times, which made it hard to keep up with the program while the platform was not working. Nevertheless, the technological issues were quickly fixed and the HR team made sure people knew where to be and when.
I was greatly surprised by the amount of time that was devoted to us by every single member of the firm during and outside of rotation times. I have found this to be the most enjoyable and valuable part of the insight program. I have met a lot of interesting people that I will in contact with, and that have already given me a lot of insight and valuable advice.
As I mentioned before the HR team made a huge effort to guide us through the program and we were given lots of group feedback and advice on a daily basis. I also had a personal feedback session with my mentor that I personally found very useful and that encouraged me to participate more in group activities and show what I have learned over the past two weeks.
Most of the knowledge I obtained during the program will be more useful towards my career that my degree studies. Nevertheless, the information I received was extremely useful as during the program I had a lot of exposure to the firm and the type of jobs that exists in the securities division and I ultimately realised It is something I see myself doing in the future. Additionally, I gained a basic understanding of the financial markerts that will allow me to continue learning in my free time also using some books that were recommended by firm members. Therefore, in terms of understanding and knowledge I think I also gained a lot. Furthermore, during the rotations, market wraps and PMD sessions I was exposed to a complete new environment were I had to give my opinion to people that new much more than me about the subjects which is something that initially I didn't feel very conformable doing. However, as the program went by I learned to do my personal research and I was able to evaluate my conclusion's and understanding during the session. I have gained a lot in terms of communicating my view on certain topics and developing opinions to have valuable conversations.
The Company
Appart from the technology issues mentioned above I think the delivery of the program was incredibly good. However, I would have personally enjoyed more to have more free time to network and go back to people I had met as I was the time I enjoyed the most and found more useful.
The atmosphere was dynamic challenging, and extremely stimulating. Regarding the rest of the interns I felt like I was part of a team. The people that I met from the firm were extremely open and helpful as well as the HR. I am going back having met a lot of very interesting and like-minded people that I will definitely keep in touch with. During the insight there wasn't a minute to spare and I never found myself killing time or not knowing what to do. This just shows how well the program was managed and the incredible amount of opportunities that were given to us to explore the firm and get to know the people. I came back hope everyday very exited about how much I had learned that day and looking forward to come back the next day.
After the spring program I know that I want to work in the securities division and in a firm like Goldman Sachs.
Everyone in the firm is very happy to work there and I gained a lot of insight of what is like to work at GS, to ultimately realise how much I want to work in a place like this.
Everything Else
There were a lot of opportunities and I felt like the employees were also looking forward to meet the interns which made it very easy to get to network.
There were a significant amount of social event opportunities for networking. The one I enjoyed the most was the trading game as not only we got to learn what is like to be a trader by talking to a firm employee, but we also had an opportunity to get some basic understanding through a simulation game. I had a lot of fun and think events like this make it easier to talk to other people as a lot of natural discussion arises from the game.
There are a lot of charity opportunities and the gym facilities are very good.
