    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the internship programme. I enjoyed the teamwork, the intelligence of my spring class and the intellectual challenge of getting to grasp with basic accounting, valuation and financing techniques in a very short period of time to be able to hold meaningful conversations with IBD professionals about their work and the industry. I also enjoyed getting an insight into how it would be as an employee of the firm.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I would say that I felt valued by my peers, the speakers who came to speak with us who say us as the next generation of the firm and HCM team but as we were just learning not working on actual deals I think we will be valued even more by the IBD team during the summer programme.

    3/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I would say we received a lot of guidance on how to use the opportunity to progress our future careers, explore the business sectors and teams in IBD and grow our personal network. I also periodically received personalised feedback on my performance. I would say that we could have received more guidance in how we were being assessed and how best to perform in the case studies although they all went well.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I wouldn’t say that the information I received will help me directly with my degree studies but beyond my studies. Being able to now see how Economics affects the decisions and performance of businesses and how that effects investment banks has made me think more holistically. All the skills I have gained such as communication skills, presentation skills, teamwork skills, cultural sensitivity and time management will be useful in my degree studies and beyond!

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Extremely well structured – not a moment when there is nothing happening or nothing to be working on which is a real testament to the HCM team that organised it. An improvement could be to print out a daily timetable for the two weeks with activities and times so it is always very easy to know what we have coming up over the next few days as access to computers was often limited during Week 2.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • It was a great atmosphere and you know you are working with the best. That is the best Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs from across the world, the best HCM team, the best facilities and the best IBD teams! The atmosphere and the mentorship culture make me want to be a part of the firm.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm undisputedly invested in us and we received much more in value from the firm than they received from us. We were given whole days of training in accounting, valuation and financing techniques and access to firm resources, example case studies and online training to be taken at our leisure in preparation for our case studies or just for general enrichment. We were all grateful for the trust and access we were given to company resources.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The single most useful thing they did in this capacity was to assign us buddies with similar profiles as us that work at the firm. We were encouraged to frequently meet our buddies and ask them any questions we may have about life at the firm. An improvement could have been to give us a tour of the IBD floor to see the actual work environment.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The two things that best helped me to understand company culture were talks during the senior speaker series and talking with employees. The senior bankers are really the embodiment of the firm and really show the mentorship culture, engagement with philanthropic ini=tiatives and importance of work-life balance. Speaking with employees, all of whom loved their jobs partly because of the people then work with largely reinforces this.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Very valuable - hear from speakers in every sector and across our spring class we were paired with a large number of analysts from across the whole of IBD who gave us a down-to-earth view of life in IBD helping strengthen my interest in the industry.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid and accommodation expenses were covered for the duration of the internship.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • We were provided with networking opportunities almost every day. Where we were given the opportunity to meet professionals from a variety of divisions. Furthermore, we were given firm email addresses and encouraged to email and organise meetings with people who we had met to find out more about when they do in a one-to-one capacity.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • We were able to network with very experienced senior bankers and junior bankers with similar experiences to us to enable us to hear from a diverse group at networking events. An improvement could have been to organise more social events for the interns to meet each other and other divisions - maybe even out of the office!

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I hear from individual analysts, especially those paired with me, about how the sort of things they do outside of work but not much about specific activities that employees of the firm all get involved in - apart from the day of charity work that all 30,000+ employees do yearly.

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend that a friend who is interested in finance applies to the spring internship. You really become an employee at the firm for a short amount of time and get to see clearly how life would be like working for the firm. Also, the divisional nature of the internship means that you get a deeper insight into the role of specific teams at the bank whilst the variety of firmwide sessions helps you see where your division fits into the bank as a broader entity.
