About You
I really enjoyed the spring week internship at Goldman Sachs in London in the Finance Division. It was really useful to experience what it is like to work in a leading global investment bank from the inside and get a wide and extended exposure to the firm. I was interning in the Finance division so I was able to get a good insight into all of the main finance and risk sub division within the firm.
I was always really valued throughout my time when I was an intern at the company. The program was very well organised so it meant there were always people available to answer any questions we had and give us a deeper understanding of the company, its functions and the more specific roles of different subdivisions within the company. I felt very valued during the internship
There was always lots of support and guidance available during the internship. Each different sub division of the department in which we were interning had multiple people specifically designated to come and speak with us and we were always able to reach out and contact them if we had any further questions or needed clarification on anything.
I did not have a finance background prior to coming into the internship so I learnt a lot of new skills and gained invaluable knowledge about the financial services industry. This information, I am sure, will be widely transferable and directly applicable to my studies at university and more broadly, to my wider life.
The Company
The spring internship was very structured: clearly a lot of effort had been made by the recruitment team to make sure that the program was at the correct level for all the participants. Each day followed a structured timetable with session from different departments and the internship on a whole seemed to be well structured holistically with a sense of culmination at the end of the program.
There was a great sense of atmosphere during the internship even though it was for a relatively short period of time. We got to know our colleagues on the program well due to introduction and icebreaker session and group projects in which we were forced to work together as a group as well as more informal yet professional interactions with both employees and colleagues.
As a company, I think that they invested greatly in my development and training throughout the program. They offered multiple sessions specifically focused in developing skills, focusing on personal training, giving and equipping us with more than sufficient skills in these particular areas. I really value how much they invested in my personal training and development over such a short period of time.
The program was very well organised so gave a very realistic impression of what it would be like to work at the firm full time in my opinion. This was achieved by close interaction with multiple employees working at the firm so we could get each of their individual outlooks on what it is like to work at the firm. Furthermore, getting multiple outlooks was invaluable in trying get an actual understanding of the culture of the firm.
The insight gave me a great understanding of the company culture in my opinion. We were told the key ethos and principles of the company at the beginning of the program. Throughout the program, these were demonstrated on many occasions through our interaction with the company's employees from multiple different departments. The interactions with employees really validated the company culture.
The content of the day was really useful in helping me decide on my career path as I was able to significantly narrow down which divisions and sub divisions I am interested. This is really useful as it allows me to get a good understanding of what my next steps should be and where I should investigate more into the company and the industry in general. So yes, the content of the internship was invaluable in deciding on options for my future career.
