About You
I considered the insight programme really gave me a full idea of what Investment Banking is like, but I would not be so sure as to give it full scores due tot he fact that I still do not know if it is the right job for me.
The fact that they invested so many resources on us, brought so many senior people to be with us and explain us their experience made us feel important and valued by the firm even though we were only going to be there for two weeks.
We received just enough guidance to know where we had to be, but at the same time it was expected from us to manage our time and make our own decisions, which is why we were not always given instructions as to the exact things that were expected from us.
The technical skills on valuation will definitely help in advanced finance courses I will have to enrol in in my last years at university while the personal skills I gained and public-speaking ones will be undoubtedly useful for all my life.
The Company
The speaker events were well organized according to the "weekly topics" and there was a good combination of things we had to do by ourselves and more lecture-like activities.
Not only did the other interns open up very soon and make it easy for everyone to be themselves, but the team was also very close to us from the beginning and showed tremendous availability.
The two-day training is only one example of the amount of time and senior employees they have devoted to our personal development.
I leave with a great understanding of what Investment Banking is, especially thanks to the case studies, but, for obvious reasons, the only thing we are missing is seeing how the relationship with the client influences the whole process of elaborating a presentation, modeling a company's valuation or getting to know the industry.
We leave with a very clear idea of Goldman Sachs's principles as well as the importance teamwork has at all levels.
Although it is too soon to tell and I will have to digest everything, I think it has given me an idea that this can be a very interesting path for me in order to invest on myself.
Everything Else
There were many.
Employees showed complete availability for us to get coffee with them or drop them an email.
The first day affiliation networks were introduced and whilst talking to particular employees we got to know the group activities they organize outside of the office and how they enjoy their free time together too.
I think anyone is privileged to participate in this internship.
