    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The 2 weeks were incredibly enjoyable but at some times overwhelming. A lot of activities and assessments are packed into the week which keeps you really busy and makes you learn so much. Working out how to juggle everything is a struggle but it is very rewarding when you get it right. The amount of 'free time' you are given to meet with people is very daunting at first as it is hard to approach people you don't know; however once you did it you realised how friendly and willing to help everyone is, which only enhances the 2 weeks.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Incredibly valued - everyone at the firm is so friendly and willing to help you learn. If you do not understand anything you simply have to ask and people will sit down with you and help. People make a big deal that you are seen as the talent pipeline and it is as much about you liking the firm as them liking you! Occasionally people are too busy to help but they tell you to return.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The information and communication leading up to the insight is second to none. Once there everything runs like clockwork and there are always HR representatives for you to reach out to if you need any support. However one of the main aims of the programme is to make you figure out how to juggle your time and to know where you have to be and when so a lot of the time you feel like you don't have enough information on what is going on.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • In terms of technical knowledge it will not help my degree as I study engineering however the time management skills will help immensely with project work and deadlines. Beyond university the programme gives you your first feel of a high pressured job! Whatever job you have you will need to know how to manage tasks and network with people.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured. The programme has been carefully planned to give the best exposure to as much of the business as possible as well as meeting the other interns. You get formal presentations on business areas and wider economic themes and then you get to apply what you have learn by visiting the actual desk and people who work there.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was friendly but stressful and a touch competitive. All of the interns were lovely and really up for getting to know each other but the week is really busy with lots of tasks to complete so you do feel stressed. However it is good that you have people to get through it with. You can sense that some people are being strategic in the hopes of converting.

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They put a lot of time into you - the programme is 2 weeks which is unusual, they are normally 1. Also you are an actual employee for the 2 weeks; you get an email account and a computer space and you get paid. The time it must take them to organise that must be huge. Furthermore employees are so keen to help you learn and make you understand what they do better.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • You get to experience the pressure and fast paced environment that you would get at Goldman however you are not doing any physical work for the desks. You can ask questions about what people do but it isn't the same as actually doing the work. You can definitely feel the team culture though.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • You learn that everyone is super friendly and just wants the company to do well. The teamwork is evident and everyone wants to achieve the best they can. However because you don't spend very long on a desk it is hard to see the dynamics between employees who work together all the time and spend such long hours together.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The programme gives you a very wide understanding of the firm which I think equips you to know whether the financial sector is right for you but not what desk suits you; for this you need more time! The programme really does allow you to explore every part of the trading floor and talk to whoever you want to to find the information you want.

    4/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • You are paid a salary as you officially work at the firm. Therefore your expenses are not covered but you are paid well! Furthermore if you live too far away they will provide you accommodation to stay in in central london; most people stay there so it sounds like lots of fun, unfortunately I lived too close!

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • You are constantly meeting people! From the very first day you are exposed to so many people from the firm. There are organised networking events to met people over a lunch or dinner but you are encouraged to use your 'free time' meeting as many people as possible. You also have formal desk rotations so from that I met at least 10 employees from different desks.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking events were very well organised with lots of employees attending. On the first day there was a networking events between the interns which was a great icebreaker. There were 3 additional events including meeting your buddies and a women's lunch. In terms of social events there wasn't any organised but we were free to meet up outside of work.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • 4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Absolutely! I had an amazing experience! The hours were long, it was stressful at times but it gives you a true insight into Goldman and whether you think you could work there long term, which is exactly what you want from the insight. You learn so much knowledge and definitely learn new skills.
