About You
It was a very full experience. I learnt how to push myself in a very competitive environment. It is the best internship I have gotten the chance to experience all my life. Goldman Sachs, for a young person, is the right amount of pressure and filling.
Everyone knew who we were and allowed us into their space. I have never experienced this level of deliberate care and intention in all my life.
I had someone with me every step of the way: mentors and buddies (both informal and formal).
Oh, I was way out of my zone. I study Chemical Engineering so it was a very different experience because I was expected to understand the flow of the markets.
The Company
It was fully structured. I was allowed in the falls.
It was full of activity and people willing and able to talk about their experience.
A whole lot! We got to speak to Richard Gnodde, the chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs International. I learnt how to use Thompson Reuters, the dynamics of trade and a whole lot.
Now, in the securities division, Goldman Sachs structures the floors based on asset classes and the interns had the opportunity to mix with the entire division. It was a very rich cultural integration for each one of us. We had access to anyone just like that-- Associate, VP, MD and the CEO!
What I learnt the most was the factor of excellence in ensuring productivity. Goldman's culture of excellence is tougher than anything you can imagine.
I have more than an idea of what I'd like to do with my life, and I think that was the point at the end of the day!
Everything Else
For a Nigerian lady, Yes!
A lot!
Very engaging. There were networking events for females, blacks, traders, researchers. It felt as though they did more than prepared for us. They 'cared' a great deal about our perception of them as theirs of us.
We tried to.
This is a life changing experience. I cannot explained how much-- it can only be experienced.
