The Role
It was really great - I felt I had the trust of my team to get on with some really important projects which will put me in a good position going forward. The team were really friendly, the charity has some great events and overall I feel in a good position to get a job in the area (I now know) I want to be.
I felt like I was providing value, which is important, and had a mix of support and lead roles. My contribution was always welcome, feedback always forthcoming and overall everyone took an interest in my development.
We struck a really great balance of independent work and supervised work, and I she was always supportive of my (many) questions and willing to give her time to helping me
I never lacked a job and I was able to proactively seek work from other team members to supplement my experience, too.
I took the lead on three studies, which whilst supervised properly, and open to being changed, made me feel trusted and like I was getting a wholesome taste of the roles of the team I was in.
It put into practice my Masters, and gave me experience in the skills I'd been doing there, which will help me bridge the 'qualified no experience' gap in the competitive policy market.
The Company
Ambitious people, always happy to share and help, driven, generally conductive.
Great - I had separate tasks, work lists, reviews, catch ups and development sessions on work skills.
CV workshops, interview practice, a mentor, a line manager, regular catch ups, linked in and presentation skills, fundraising, external events. For a 12 week scheme it was quite well stocked!
Subsidised Canteen
It varies, but in general being employed into the role you want from the internship is unlikely, and roles in my directorate are open to the normal stiff competition.
The Culture
There was a weekly social organised by an intern,
It's London - very, very expensive
It's London! Stocked but pricey
Not a huge array of clubs and stuff, but again London has these things locally.
