    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the insight very much- i found it exciting to be in the bp head office in london and found everyone welcoming. I felt it was a warm environment that gave me an actual insight into what working there would be like, especially speaking to real employees on grad schemes that could be me in 2 years.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I was only there one day and my day included being shown around so i didn't really get the opportunity to actually do anything for the company, however when the grad scheme employees were explaining their roles and life at the company they especially said it was different to other firms due to them being made feel valued.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • During the insight i received a lot of support- we were asked to do a trading game on the trading floor whereby we were each given a computer and were allowed to do stocks and decide if we would buy or sell stocks. This was very well explained and there were employees around giving support if needed.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There was a very useful presentation on the interview process for BP internships- it was a step by step information presentation giving useful tips and tricks on how to succeed. this will help me beyond as it is a similar process to other internship application processes and also similar to graduate scheme application processes.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The day was well structured- we were met in the reception by a lady who took us to the room where we waited for just a few minutes until the presentation started that explained the day to us. We also had a break where lunch was provided with teas, coffees, and sandwiches. We then went to the trading floor to play a trading game.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Everyone was generally in a good mood during the insight day- There was positive and motivated atmosphere, questions were encouraged to be asked. Everyone seemed to be very into it and enjoying themselves, the game was very competitive with the results being displayed after on the board.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was only there for one insight day so not much was invested in me, however after speaking to graduate employees it seems they invest in them a lot as they give them a lot of trust and responsibility early on in the scheme. They are also extremely good at training and take internal training very seriously.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • To a large extent as they had employees from all areas of the firm explaining their roles and responsibilities- for example there was someone from auditing etc. They took you threw their day to day life at the firm and real life experiences, this made me understand what it would actually be like to work at BP.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • From what the graduate employees said, I understood the culture of the company well- it seems to be a company that focuses on their employees and takes care of them. Different to investment banks, they are not forced to stay later or come in earlier and work unpaid overtime- not taken advantage of.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content of the day was valuable as it made me realise i want to work in a company that actually takes their employees into consideration and doesn't take advantage of them- I never thought this was very important before this day as i was desperate to get anything however its made me realise there are companies that will make car elf you as an employee.
