The Role
Excellent internship overall, great insight into the industry and level of project in relation to the short time of the internship (11 weeks).
Supportive, sociable and friendly team.
Every intern was given a supervisor, line manager, mentor and buddy for support. General support network inside and outside of the team was also excellent.
In general, interns were always kept busy enough, however due to the nature of some projects; it was possible that sometimes aspects of your work were held up due to circumstances outside of your immediate control. However, this was an excellent opportunity for exploring work and networking opportunities outside of your direct project.
Projects amongst interns were all real value-add to the company and real responsibility is given from the get-go.
Great emphasis and support for both technical and personal development within the industry. Role was not directly related to degree studies but many transferable skills and competencies could be carried over for my final year of studies.
The Company
Positive atmosphere despite the issues currently being faced within the industry regarding the oil price + redundancies. Good balance of staff socialising and knowing when to concentrate solely on work. Staff working under deadlines or focusing on a project would tend to have earphones in as a sign to not disrupt their work.
Overall the placement was fairly well organised with clear objectives and set reviews at intervals of the internship. However, there was occasional miscommunications or delays in certain aspects.
The company definitely placed a large emphasis on both technical training and personal development. Presentation skills training, resilience + personality workshops were offered out to interns. Additionally, daily time was spent with members of my team on both and individual and group level to provide technical training on various aspects of role.

I was made an offer for the BP graduate scheme within the same team for the following year's intake.
The Culture
Aberdeen is fairly expensive as a city to live in and despite being a smaller city, there is plenty to keep you occupied both within the city (i.e shopping, nightlife) and outside of the city (walks, beaches etc.)
There were a number of charity based events to get involved with both inside and outside of work, as well as social events organised and financed by the company.
